Care to explain what an economic stimulus cheque is?
Might be cause im from the UK
Because the economy is in a recession (or nearing a recession), the govt thought it'd be a great idea to borrow money from other countries to give each person who has a job in America (and earns like under $150,000 [not sure what the max was]) a couple hundred dollars to go out and buy stuff to 'stimulate' the economy.
That's not the best explanation but it'll do, I think.
They are just hoping everyone will run out and spend away to pull us out of a recession. I doubt this plan will work though although I am of course running out to spend mine on guess what, 3g iPhone !

Yeah, basically if you earned over a small amount (like $3000) and under something like $80,000, you got $600 tax-free from the government (earn less than $3000 and you get less), plus $300 per kid if you have em. But since pretty much every tax payer in the US is getting this government money, it means we're just increasing our national debt by a hell of a lot to do this. Hope it works!

You seem to be under the hilarious impression that this is being done for logical reasons and not to simply curtail favor with the votors.
Surely you have politions where you live? I'm certain they are similar to ours, just transfer whatever impressions you have of your own polititions to U.S. politions and I'm sure you'll get the idea.

Look at Obama's previous voting record ... it has been historically far far left and in line with socialism. There are far too many sites out there proving it then what I could do with a post.
In France people would rather live on welfare / other government programs then work. According to some family friends in France it has gotten so bad recently that they can not find anyone to build them a new house at ANY price.

There is a better way to explain this check from the govt, I like to think of it more as a refund for all the taxes we are forced to pay everyday from income,sales,state,fed,county,city,fishing,hunting and on and on and on. Air is about the only thing not taxed.

So by giving a cash payout equalling nearly 100 billion dollars to working americans, half of which will just sling it into a bank account for a rainy day, how is that supposed to stimulate the economy.
