I earned 4,000 dollars. Is the stimulus check $300 or $600?? Different people tell me different things

Hmmm! I wonder if it's anyway near the UK prices... equates to $9.75 for a US gallon!!

It's quite a hot topic at the moment, the price has gone up 40% in the last 12 months!!

The country isn't very amused!

Rant over.

well... your gas prices would be close to ours if your country didn't tax it by such huge amounts. too bad we didn't think of that... we might have a good public transportation system in lots of cities instead of only a handful.

True on both counts but since I work 100 miles away from where I live and there is no efficient public transport that goes there, I would rather have cheap fuel! Also, our fuel prices mean that the price of EVERYTHING goes up because the hauliers fuel bills have almost doubled in 12 months!

Mine was $300. It was gone the day it was direct deposited in my account. It went to pay my mortgage.

I remember about two years ago, the President did the same thing only the check then was $600. I wonder why they didn't go with the same amount this time? My pay level hasn't changed since then.

It just cost me £80 ($160) to fill my car up with diesel and no cheque from the government for me! :(

And your currency did not fall 70% against the Euro either. I spend a lot of time in Europe and my USD goes less and less further each day

This economic stimulus plan is a job preservation plan. Job preservation for the politicians.

Not really - it was all thought up by Bush, who has no job preservation to do - he's out at the end of this year no matter what, and he can't come back. I think it's more about him wanting to be remembered about handing out money and "solving the recession" than wanting to be remembered for 911 and the war in Iraq.

yawn....

whats this got to do with the iphone?

apart from maybe 3 people saving the cash to buy one!

Aaah, maybe the answer is not to go to Europe.... I might heed that advice myself one day and bugger off somewhere else!

Do you remember how quickly this was passed by both houses. That should tell us something about this job preservation package. They love to dole out money during election year.

Yeah, basically if you earned over a small amount (like $3000) and under something like $80,000, you got $600 tax-free from the government (earn less than $3000 and you get less), plus $300 per kid if you have em. But since pretty much every tax payer in the US is getting this government money, it means we're just increasing our national debt by a hell of a lot to do this. Hope it works!

The timing, getting the money a month before the 3G iPhone, is very suspicious...maybe Apple arranged this with the government?

I remember reading somewhere we might have to claim this as income on 2008 taxes. if that is the case it isnt tax free.
i may be wrong though.
