It has been a while already for us to make the 1.1 update.
Now ECP is with TV out support, loop play/next item (Ash, I remember you've mentioned the auto play feature, after some time, we deliver the tag system to feed your need, thanks for you suggestion :)

And most importantly, huge improvement for playback performance. Especially on MKV movies.

I just finished updating to the new version 1.1 and I love it. The tagging feature is great. The new version also plays a .mov file that failed to play on the previous version. This is a superb update. I appreciate the fact that the developer responds to the email that I have sent with suggestions.

I have 5 video players in my collection but EC Player is my favorite. If other forum members want terrific playback I highly recommend this app and the developer.

Tex-Twil : Yes, EC Player supports AC3 audio.
Ash: Yep, passcode will definitely be one of the thing to be included in the future update.
It takes quite a while for us to tuning the performance, and determine how to delivery the loop play experience, to follow other players' folder approach, or trying something new :p
And turnout I am so glad to hear that you like the tag system! :D
So after getting these core things done, I hope it will take much shorter time to add other functions incrementally.

@Ashwood11, you have convinced me to have a try on EC Player.
It is surprisingly great! The playback performance is awesome, many HD movies that are playing slow on my goodplayer can be play smoothly on EC Player.
And I like the tag system, drop and drag looks more 'iPad' like :D

Glad you like EC Player. It doesn't get mentioned very often but the playback is superior to the other 4 apps that I have. The developer always responds to email.

Just got my new Ipad 2 and would like to give this a shot - are there any coupons codes floating around?

@utopianbl, the fifty codes for the current version had been used up.
If you want a smooth video player, ECP wont disappoint you, and I am glad to let you know that it's on sale now for 0.99 only. Dont miss the chance to get a nice player with good support :D

EC Player 1.20 is released

support for nested tags and tag reordering

I send support and email but haven't heard back so I'm posting my feature requests here.

I really like this app but there are a few features that are missing that I would like to see.

1. tag reordering
2. support for nested tags like gmail
3. ability to multi-select ranges of videos instead of double tapping each one individually

4. Another nice to have would be the ability to reorder clips within a tag

Thanks,
Sanjiv

Sanjiv,

Nice to hear your comment, I am sorry for the late reply since I am out of town with no Internet access. I believe my colleague has answered some of your questions.
We will keep on improving the tag system for power users like you. And it would be really great if you can provide a download link for the flv that cause problem.

version 1.22 is online
- Adding indicator to show movie tags in list view
- Fixing retina display in Tip/Setting/Update screens
- Fixing iOS4.x resolution text not showing bug

Enjoy your movies on your iOS devices!

Why can't we sort the movie according to alphabetical sort?

----------

It's a good program however lacks some features like ability to put movies in a folder of its own.

greythorne, you can name your subtitle file as the same as movie then it will be loaded automatically.
E.g. Mymovie.srt + Mymovie.mpg

For embedded sub, you can click the 'pencil' edit button on the top and then the poped up edit button. Then you can select the subtitle track.

We decided to implement tag system instead of folder after consideration.
Users can easily creates tags to drop n drag them into different categories.
It may seems a bit different from what other players provided, but we do think tags are more user friendly once people get used to it. Just like you won't find folders and subfolders in gmail :p

Where do I find the version number of the program?

----------

Which file format gives better performance and smaller file size?

Hello.
ECPlayer looks like a great app. I'm looking right now for a good video player for my .mkv 720p anime series. I would like to buy this one, but before that - I've got a question.

Do ECPlayer supports .ass subtitle format? and does it support embedded subs?

You know, I'm using right now OPlayer and AVPlayer - However, OPlayer displays subtitles in a very strange way, while AVPlayer sometimes isn't able to play few of my video files (I'm working on iPad 2). I don't know why and I'm just tired of looking for particular solutions.

@ greythorne, h.264 in mp4 will give best performance, since we can use hardware decoder on it. If there are two versions of the same movie, we suggest you should download the mp4 version. If there's only a single version and you dont want to reencode, just let ECP to play it for you, that's why we created it :)
Btw, we have missed the version indication in the setting page, (oops!) we will add it back in the future patch.

@ t0rr3s, Thanks! Glad that you like ECP

@ Xenosage, ECP do support both ass and srt external subtitles. For embedded subtitles in MKV, ECP support text versions.

Thanks for your answer.
Actually, I bought ECPlayer like 2 days ago to test it and I'm really satisfied with this choice. It is, indeed, a great media player. The only problem I encountered lastly is a 10-bit video file. I don't know why, but damn Japanese moved recently to this standard and almost each new series are encoded in that way. Even OS X MPlayer isn't always able to play them properly, so I guess it would be a great challenge for iPad/iPhone.

Anyway, ECPlayer is a superior one among the other video players :) Looking forward to the newest NAS update! ^^

Multiple language tracks?

Hi,
I'm very interested in ec player since I've got a lot of MKVs and an ipad2 and avplayerhd really only disappointed me so far. Does ec player support multiple language tracks (even both ac3)? So far I could neither in vlc nor avplayerhd change between languages.

Hey fr33z33. Its actually hard to say because I haven't used any file with double/few audio tracks, but in file edition, I saw you can (I guess) pick one. Cause I always have a single track, there is only one to choose.

ECPlayer is for sure the best available option for now. It plays really well almost all my mkv files. However, I was wondering if there are any plans, or if it is possible to improve subtitles displaying? I mean, there are very often situations where more than one person speaks, and you're capable only to see one line, leaving the rest of dialogue. Or there are sometimes descriptions, which usually should appear at the top of the screen. I guess that feature would make my day for good.

Fr33z33, sorry for my late reply. ECP allows subtitle/audio track selection in the file edit page like xeno said. If you are a big fan of mkv, ECP is the choice for you.
Xeno, thanks for your help on this topic :)
I got what you mean for the subtitle display, it will be one of the enhancemt to consider after NAS patch. (Due to some performance issue, the patch is delayed.)

Regards,

That was a fast reply mugwater ;))) thank you.
I'm glad to hear that you are going to improve this subtitles feature. If you do that, I can totally title ECPlayer as a mobile MPlayer ;D You're helping me a lot with using my iPad as independant device ;) for I'm mostly using it to watch my video files, play some games and edit documents to school ;P

About the update, how long it will take it doesn't matter, for you're doing a great job and as you have already said, it is all for performance, so surely you need time to fix all the details ;) Good luck with that!

The shared drive streaming is available on app store now.
Also, all new uploaded mkv files will support embedded subtitles even in buffer mode.
Thanks all for your comments :)
