The final straw was when Apple broke "Skip when shuffling". Nothing more fun now that turning on shuffling and hearing ring tones and Christmas songs mixed in with my other 1500 songs.

I miss the days of a pure music player and the simplicity of it. Really pathetic Apple.

But is that why they do playlists so much? But playlists are so damned tedious to create, but would make for a better shopping experience in that it wouldn't go from Motorhead to Mozart to Red Hot Chili Peppers...

Was that what the 'Genius' setting was supposed to provide? I get lost in the complexity.

I grieve for the 'hit the control on the remote to start music' feature being excised. It was once so easy to shop at the grocery. Plug in the ear buds, hit the control twice, and have instant music. Now, it seems I have to wake the iPhone up, and click music, then songs, than shuffle all... Easy to use, my arse...

Making playlists used to be so much easier when you could have a window of the playlist open separate from the music library window. You would see a song you want in the library, then drag it to the playlist window.

Searching for songs to add to the playlists were easier then too.

When Apple went with the one window iTunes, I think that is when it really started to suck for me.

I can help with that. Right click the track and chose 'Add to playlist'. You can add multiple tracks to a playlist, but it's surfing through the tracks to make the playlist. *sigh*

I know about the right click > add to playlist, but that is not really a solution. It takes longer, more clicks, and it is easy to accidentally put songs in the wrong playlists by doing it that way.

IMO, the older way with multiple windows was much easier, quicker, and more convenient than the current way. Especially when dealing with multiple songs using search.

I used this before but with 200 playlists it's REALLY inconvenient...

Really inconvenient? I bet it is.

It sucks with my 15-ish playlists, it has to be practically impossible for 200.

Do you miss the old iTunes with multiple windows? How do you even manage 200 non-smart playlists?

True that. It is a pain, but it's the only way, apparently, that is supported. *ICK*

iTunes.app has gotten father portly over the years. Too many changes are being made, for what we must guess at the reason being 'Because we can'.

iTunes used to be great, sure, it had its issues, but it was all inclusive, and when you looked for 'media', or the industry buzzword 'content', it was all in iTunes. Now? Depending on the device, it could be scattered over several apps, and one can wonder if they also have different databases now, which raises the alarm for the future in that one app that doesn't play well with the 'pool' can piss in it, and make it unusable.

THAT in itself makes me really concerned about the future of the iTunes database structure. Being a 'closed' system, and not having any troubleshooting apps officially supported, it tends to make me wonder, if it's true, what the hell someone at Apple was thinking...

But anyway...

Yeah, iTunes is getting more and more eccentric as it ages.

200? Are you a masochist? I used to use playlists a little, keeping a 'Music Only' for my iPod Classic, but after I lost it, I don't have any active playlists, except for the 'newly added', that I'm aware of.

Did they, for 'marketing reasons' *cough* decide to make playlists harder to use to push people into their Music pay-for-play service? Hmm...

Good point. If the change did not happen years ago I would believe this.
It seems like many changes lately, and not just iTunes, may have been done for marketing reasons.

The iOS 9 music app for example. Big ads for Beats1 and AM. And why is the play button in the music app tiny?

Another would be the constant reminders that there is an iOS update available, without a simple way of closing that pop-up. You have 3 options, the quickest option is "remind me later", but that leads to another pop-up.

I do. I use the "drag to the left" option but it's also inconvenient. One of my MANY complaints with iTunes...

No, a nerd. I make playlists for moods, playlists with individual artists' best of arranged by moods as well (so I have: Madonna Complete Singles, Madonna Best Of, Madonna Moods (ballads), Madonna Uppers, Madonna remixes, etc. Repeat for many other artists).

I moved to Spotify. Its local files handling is a PITA but it's, sadly, better than iTunes. Once again, I have big hopes for 12.4 but I fully expect to be disappointed.

If they left the iPod Nano exactly as it is... OK, more than 8 GB... and added Apple Music offline saving with caveat of "you need to go online once every 30 days" (like Spotify is now) I would be SO happy.

YAY! for the South Park reference. :D
