Eddy, your full of ****.

Nothing you release this year will beat the release if the original IPod, iPhone and iPad.

one thing's for sure, in 6 months, either you or eddy cue is going to look very stupid

So one of us is going to look very stupid. Either Eddy Cue - well known big-wig at Apple, or me - random internet guy of unknown location, age or profession.

Oh no! Hope I'm right! I don't think I'd ever live down the embarrassment.

Exactly what one would expect him to say.

Agree on Tim Cook, but if there was really nothing happening product-wise, he would manage expectations rather than give a strong prediction like this.
Personally, I don't expect to see much at WWDC, but I'd expect 2-3 new
announcements later this year, possibly in a new and unexpected product area.
For now, I'm holding off on an MBA replacement until I see what's announced :)

Yeah yeah the same said Tim cook two years how they're developing "amazing products" and all they put out was iPad on diet and and a fingerprint magnet (literally hehe) iPhone.
It's basically the same stuff coming out of mouth from a different person. Oh boy are people going to be dissapointed :D

Not really. Only the people who need to have their random urges satisfied every 90 seconds, and who thought they were getting it from Steve Jobs, even though they really weren't.

how is the new pages working for you?

but the whole premise of your post is based on this hyperbole of needing to satisfy ones urges every 90 seconds which is somewhere between nonsensical and insulting that im not surprised it got a few likes.

these so called random people are only reacting to the nonsense (so far) that leaves the mouths of the current execs at apple. ever since jobs died we have been hearing about 4-5 years worth of products (apparently that meant updates) and new and exciting products coming later this year/next year etc.

but you do nice deflecting

It would be really good if we got to see something like the new iWatch or iPhone :D however i think it will focus on things like the new "Healthbook" app which i think will be a major app for the iWatch. Fingers crossed ;)

It's true that Tim did not keep the promise of products ALL ACROSS 2014. That didn't happen. We are almost half a year in with nothing but a priced dropped Macbook Air. It is clear that Apple is continuing the FALL EVERYTHING release schedule for better or worse (I personally hate it).

Tim also has committed to multiple new product categories this year. So looking at the landscape, lets take Eddy's point at face value.

(1) Music Streaming: Beats...does that count as a new category? Apple clearly messed up and got taken by surprise on that front, but that whole deal was really about Iovine. The man is brilliant...watch his interview from D11.

(2) iHome: Rumors of Apple making much more simplified process to get home products connected...that is certainly new and can be game changing.

(3) iWatch: This is certainly coming, and in my estimation it is Tim Cook's pet project. He is very dedicated to fitness, loves the Nike Fuel-band (and where did all those ex Nike employees go...). This has potential to disrupt not only the wearables space but Health in general. Could be huge, but of course we shall see. This is a new category.

(4) Apple TV: Based on what Eddy said, it echoes Tim Cook over the past two years. Apple has invented an amazing TV, but it will not ever be released without the content back end (this even goes back to Steve Jobs last interview with Walt at D:10 I want to say...he called the landscape Balkanized and that the "TV would always lose" because there is no Go To Market strategy). That seems to still be the case. Apple is clearly going to update the box this year, but don't expect anything more than what Amazon has on theirs....games and POSSIBLY an App Store.

(5) iPad: nothing spectacular this year, just Touch ID and faster internals.

(6) OS X: redesign sure, but that isn't going to change desktop computing.

(7) iCloud: not making a new iDisk or Dropbox competitor, and their cloud services seem to be moving along slowly. I wouldn't expect anything amazing here.

(8) Macbook Air: if it is just a retina version and thinner that is great and all, but nothing revolutionary. Apple could have more up it's sleeve with this (ARM, but that is a BIG MAYBE). But if Apple isn't going to make it touchscreen or have it use iOS at all, how can this be a new product category.

(9) iOS 8: hopefully fixes any remaining problems of iOS7 (such as the AWFUL MUSIC APP!!!). Healthbook will be big of course, but not sure how much else is coming this year...seems more like a refinement. I really would like two things: quick reply to email/texts and group emailing. Not sure why we have neither at the current moment.

I still have faith that Apple is the company we all know and love, but Walt was right and there was a Reset. Scott Forstall getting fired, the restructure toward "collaboration", and the recent hires are all indicative of that. However I will say that Iovine and Ahrendts are two amazing people, and they will certainly put Apple in a good direction.

BTW...what happened to MERGING APPLE ID's! Tim promised that like two years ago. And where is an update to Aperture!

I hope so, its been a very quiet year for apple, and the competition isn't waiting around either.

25 years... So the best year since 1989? They're going to manage to top the year that they released both the first Apple TV and iPhone (that's the best year I can recall right now... Someone feel free to correct me if they've had a bigger year than that before. Swapping to Intel was pretty sweet, but I don't think I'd call it bigger than those two all new product launches. Killing off useless products when SJ came off was pretty cool too, but again, doesn't make for a bigger year).

I honestly believe this will be a history year for Apple. I dont have much reasoning for believeing that. Its just a gut feeling.

I agree, 2007 was the biggest for me as well. The Apple TV and iPhone changed a lot. That was also the year I bought the new Aluminum iMac, major iMovie change (which caused a ripple that eventually hit Final Cut Pro). That was a major year, and the tagline for Macworld was "The first 30 years were just the beginning." Apple certainly delivered. And then in Jan 2008 the Macbook Air was released. So a lot happened in a years time.

I personally don't think this year will be as big, but like others have said, I think we are on the verge of another Apple Renaissance of products. Again, largely just a gut feeling as others have said, but we shall soon see if the "patience to do it right" was just marketing or truth.

You completely missed the point about the pipeline being clogged ;)

Apple used to have what you describe , just seems to have plumbing problems , where it gets glogged up and cleared just before Xmas each year ;)

He asked me to define "pipeline" and I did :)

Apple always has a pipeline... which are products in various states of completion. All companies do.

I understand what you're saying... that Apple seems to stack all their products until the end of each year.

But there are even more products scheduled for the future... in the pipeline.

For instance... iPhone 6 is nearing completion for a Fall 2014 release. But I bet work has already begun on the next iPhone... and maybe the one after that.

True.

I just consider it more of a product roadmap. A pipeline implies constant flow.

semantics I guess.

I think the lack of any major product announcements or public statements such as this one has been a reason for a lot of people recently proclaiming the downfall of Apple. It's nice to hear the executives speaking with confidence about the state of the company. I'm sure after the announcements made at WWDC and as we gear up for the Fall and get more Apple keynotes, the consumer base should have a renewed confidence with them. Half a year with no keynote or any idea of what Apple is doing makes people antsy, I think.

Apple doesn't generally make these type of comments prior to product launches, so there must be something pretty extraordinary coming. And you can be certain that was an official Apple statement, not just an off-the-cuff comment by Cue.

I agree. Words like that are carefully chosen by Apple. And their use is certainly approved by Cook.

No. I don't expect better. I expect different.

Let's just hope one of them is the damned Mac Mini. Otherwise at this rate the Mac Pro will get updated and I'll end up getting a second hand current new Mac Pro, when all I really need is a Mac Mini with some long overdue updates.

Every time I see one of these, I'm reminded how pointless Kara Swisher is. Walt does a great job interviewing and then Kara comes in with some pointless comment or superficial question.

Just like authors and musicians... their newest is always the best yet. I'm sure you could find a similar "best pipeline" quote the year the 4S came out and Siri was the best they could do.

True.

Ah I see now.

To me... roadmaps seem like written goals in a document. You see product roadmaps on a chart, for instance.

But when I hear "products in the pipeline" it feels like they're much further along in the process. Those are just my interpretations.

Eddy Cue did use the term "pipeline" though... but I guess "roadmap" could have been used too.

As for constant flow... I think you're confusing releases with development.

Yes... releases happen once a year... but development is non-stop.

By the time the iPhone 3GS was released... Apple had already begun work on the iPhone 4. And I wouldn't be surprised if they were exploring the aluminum construction for the iPhone 5 too... even though its release was over two years away.

They're not just working on one thing... they're looking at the next thing and beyond. That's the constant flow.
