I have to say I was blown away today watching Edge of Tomorrow in 3D on the Vision Pro. Honestly I hadn't sat down and watched a 3D movie on my AVP even though I got it months ago. It really increases the immersion and I had so much fun watching everything in 3D. I actually can say that I prefer 3D movies now, if they are done right.

I just bought 5 more movies to watch in 3D, all were $5 each.

What are some of your favorite 3D movies you have watched on the AVP?

I agree completely! I saw the middle chunk of Edge of Tomorrow years ago when it first came out on DVD but hadn’t seen it since and never from the beginning to the end. It was the first full 3D movie I watched on the AVP when Apple made it available as part of the Apple TV+ subscription in a batch of movies for a limited time back in April / May. I was blown away. The 3D was good enough to notice it and feel immersed without being overwhelming or underwhelming.

I’ve found if anything some of the 3D movies are a bit underwhelming in that I don’t really notice the 3D effects much at all. Here are some of the movies I’ve gone on to watch:

Films I hadn’t seen before that I felt were enhanced by it:

Jurassic World
Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom
Dune
Bland Runner: 2049
Ready Player One
Hugo

Here are films I’d only seen once or twice, tops, that I felt where enhanced by it as well:

Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek Beyond
Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse
Thor: Ragnorok
Spider-Man: Homecoming
Spider-Man: Far From Home
Spider-Man: Long Way Home

Here are films I’d seen before that I felt underwhelmed by as in I didn’t feel like they were that much more immersive when watched in 3D and all of them I liked except for Justice League when I saw them:

The Amazing Spiderman
The Amazing Spider-Man II
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Justice League
No Time To Die

Here are films I’ve seen a ton that I felt were enhanced by it but my bias toward liking the films without 3D might well have affected the way I felt about the 3D enhancement:

Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: End Game
Captain America: Civil War
Dr. Strange
Captain Marvel
Black Panther
Mad Max: Fury Road
Rouge One: A Star Wars Story

Films I Have in 3D that I haven’t Watched At All Yet (can you tell there was a sale on 😂the Godzilla/Kong movies? LOL):

Godzilla
Kong: Skull Island
Godzilla vs Kong
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Godzilla King of the Monsters

Movies in 3D I’ve Heard Good Things About but Haven’t Seen:

Mission Impossible: Fallout
Pacific Rim (and its sequel)

That’s about it for me at the moment. I will say from here on out with a lot of these 3D movies out there I’ve never seen, most of which weren’t well reviewed on Rotten Tomatoes, I’ll be renting before I buy. IMO a good 3D conversion can really enhance a movie and take an OK movie to good if it’s used properly and the story allows for it but if a movie is bad to begin with I don’t think it can make it good so I wont waste money buying movies that were panned that I’ve never seen just because they are in 3D with the exception of a bundle like the Godzilla / King Kong bundle where I got 5 movies for like $40. They looked like big special effect based movies without much of a story to begin with so if 2 - 3 of them are fun in 3D I’ll have gotten my money’s worth but I doubt I’ll do that again.

I believe Disney+ has the 2nd Avatar movie in HFR 3D, which is how I saw it in the theater. Took a few minutes to get used to the high frame rate, but then it was very impressed at the clarity.

I do wish Apple would add more 3D movies to iTunes. Seems like the selection has been the same since launch in February.

I was watching guardians of the Galaxy in 3-D on my vision, pro and exactly at the part of the opening scene where he flies away being shot out and gets hit by a geyser, my airplane hit turbulence. Like being at an amusement park!

I noticed more depths if I just watch it as a floating screen, not too far from me, in a size feels like around 65” - 80”.
But when I put it on environment mode, the 3D effect and the depth are way lesser than the floating screen.

Do you guys feel the same?

Actually I'm the opposite - I find the 3D effect to work much better in the Apple Cinema environment. If I'm not in an environment and can see the rest of the room I'm in, for me it lessens the 3D immersion. Guess why they offer people options!

Apple Cinema environment really is the best. The problems with the one that’s on Max or Disney is that it drops down the screen lower than I would like. I like it till my head back and look up when I’m on the airplane we’re sitting on the couch. But they put the screen so low it’s not as pleasant.

I do like the suggestion of the floating screen and resizing. I’ll give it a try.

Edge of Tomorrow in 3D

There are exceptions like Edge of Tomorrow and Guardians of the Galaxy for post production 3D but you must see Pacific Rim.
For me, 3D makes most movies better but I luv 3D and have a lot of 3D movies.
I really hope Apple doesn't but they will drag its feet with 3D.

Thanks for the heads up for pacific rim. It’s one of the most enjoyable action movies that have come out in the past 10 years.
I’ve not sen the 3d but now that I have my AVP I’m going to buy it in 3d

Oh, I remember Edge of Tomorrow.

It removed pretty much anything that made All You Need Is Kill somewhat interesting, so they could give it a Hollywood ending.

One of the worst book adaptations I have ever seen.
