Sorry for the ignorance, but:

1. Will my 1st gen iPhone seamlessly and transparently begin working with G3?

2. If not, is there an adaptor or hack of any kind to make this happen?

Thanks

why would they make an iPhone "G3" if the original iPhone could use the "G3" networks?

Simple answer: No to the "G3".

Wirelessly posted (PPC; 240x320; HTC_TyTN/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 7.7))

*3G
And the answer is no, 3G capabilities are a hardware thing, sorry.

If you mean the data on your original iPhone then i think the answer is yes you can seamlessly transfer all your contacts and songs over to the new iPhone 3G hardware. If you want 3G speeds on your old phone, sorry that wont happen. Just keep using the WIFI its faster then edge and 3G

@ kleo: It may be faster, but it isn't as widely available in most places
