Edit Group Contacts from phone

How do I add contacts to a group from my phone? I can do it easily on iCloud, but cant seem to figure out how to do it from my phone.

Go into the group you want the contact in and add it there. You cant add a contact and move it to a group, which I think is stupid.

so if I have the contact already stored in my phone, I have to re create the contact under the group?

You can't do it on the phone with the standard app, you need a third-party app.
