I have hours of video footage that I want to edit with iMovie. Problem is, it's all in .wmv format and iMovie won't recognize it. I'm thinking about buying Final Cut Express to make some movies, will that recognize .wmv files? Is there some other way to convert my .wmv files to a fomat that iMovie or any other Mac program will recognize?

Microsoft Movie Maker (for XP and Microsoft ME) is the only app that I know that will allow you to edit those types of files. When it produces the final video, it will be of lower quality because of the re-encoding process. One solution is to use Movie Maker to transfer it to a DV tape and then edit the resulting footage on your Mac.

Another method is to make your Windows Media Video full screen on your Mac or PC and output to a Analog to DV converter to another Mac and record the footage with Final Cut or iMovie.

the only app i can think of that edits .wmv is Windows Movie Maker... see if you can get a WMV to AVI convertor.

BornAgainMac said it all anyways
