Edit what codec, render what codec, to what?

If it was me, I think I'd be able to do the following:
- edit DV on a Mac
- export as a full-size, self-contained Quicktime movie (.mov, DV codec)
- transfer it to a PC (remember it's a big file, 13 GB per hour)
- use something on the PC to render and burn to a DVD

I wouldn't bother, though, unless I had a solid network for the transferring. Not sure if I'd bother anyway. I'd just set the render/burn to happen on my Mac when I'm going to lunch or finished for the day.

As for HD footage, I'm going to go out on a limb and say "won't work". I don't think AIC (the codec FCE and iMovie use) can be read on a PC. Although Pro Res can be played back on a PC, I'm not sure if QT Pro on a PC can export from ProRes to something else.

What is the purpose of the exported (rendered) file on the PC?

Viewing or editing?

If the first, there are different containers with a variety of codecs to use, but to give you more information, and not wasting our time, you could give us some more details on the purpose of your endeavour.
