Editing messages

For some reason, I'm not able to edit my Messages in iOS17 even when they are "blue bubble." Is there a way to turn this on or off or is the feature always available? Or am I doing something wrong?

How are you currently trying to edit a message?

To edit you would:

1. Touch and hold the message you want to edit.
2. Tap Edit.

That's what I've been doing, but "edit" isn't offered as an option

Does the other person need to be logged in to iMessage?

You can only edit messages within 15 minutes of sending them.
