I recently purchased Abbyy Finereader to handle some OCR work. Finereader will create pdfs with embedded text, as well as exporting to Word, text, and the like. I have a limited budget, and so my word processor is eitherOpenOffice or Pages, not Word, and so perhaps I'm not able to appreciate the full subtleties of the Word export. I've found that PDF with embedded text would suit my needs, as I'm focused on scanning books and magazines (with expired copyright) I chose Finereader because it handled pre revolutionary Russian. However, unlike the windows version, it does not allow the user to edit the text before it's packaged into a pdf. Therefore, I need somesoftware that will let me edit the embedded text in place. My budget, unfortunately, is extremely limited, so Acrobat would seem to be right out. Any suggestions? Some thing with good foreign language support would be useful-- I want my users to be able to select the embedded text and get a result from google translate.
