I was browsing through my brothers education store yesterday, KSU, and was perplexed to see that Apple doesn't offer any additional education discount on the refurbs. I'd guess they really want you to buy new, huh? What would you rather have then, a new machine with the education discount or a throughly checked refurb?

I always buy refurbished macs. But if the price is the same, go for the one of course. Usually refurbs are cheaper thou.

Refurb is usually a bigger discount than the Education price. However, lots of students buy during the back to school promotion to get the discount and a free ipod.

Yes the back to school promo is currently over and won't be available again until next summer. But, due to the predictable regularity of the promotion people often delay their purchases until that time.

I missed out on that promotion by 2 weeks. But at least I got a free printer. 🙁

What are you buying exactly?

Don't know, yet. Maybe a 13 Unibody or a 15 Unibody. I can't decide. I really would like to find one with a couple dings, to lower the price even more. I'm fond of the well used and loved machines.

That shouldn't be hard, they have a decent depreciation and users constantly have a desire to find a new one.
