I've seen on another thread that a few people are having issues with iOS 9, using EE sim-only. Symptoms are battery draining quickly, and the phone getting hot. Anyone else?

    I'm using iPhone 6+

Yes, I am seeing this too and am on EE

Did not think it would be anything related to a SIM... But... I was just using a 3 sim for a few weeks and did not have the issue.

EE SIM went back in yesterday and the issue has returned.

Must admit I assumed it was because I was in a different country and away from my home area.

    Using a 6

Um another thread? So why did you create another one? Or not link to the previous one?

It's a 6+. Getting about 3-4 hrs use. On iOS 8 it was getting 10-12 hrs.

Have you been using apple music?

I'm on EE contract and having similar issues

It appears Apple Music is totally crippling my battery if it's not force quitted and open in the background, it as it it *has* to stream at all times...

I'm having the same issues on my iPhone 6, carrier EE, on the latest public beta. Battery drain is about 2-3x normal and the phone gets very hot. I do have Apple Music but am encountering the above issues even when it doesn't appear to be running in the background.

    EDIT:

Anyone having these issues but NOT on EE? Would be useful to hear.

I've been having the same issues with my EE SIM only on an iPhone 5s running all of the different betas. Seems to impact when I'm travelling on trains / underground. Otherwise gets hot and battery drain. If I restart everything is normal. When I look at the "battery" in setting there are usually many apps reporting high usage and "low signal".

I took my phone of charge at 06:30 yesterday and used it for mail, twitter, messaging, etc and when I got on the train at 17:20 I had 67% of battery left.

Apple Music had been force quit and had not been used all day.

I started listening to an Album and when I stepped off the train circa 1hr 15min later the battery had fallen to 39% and the phone was hot, particularly around the top right hand of the screen.

Could be a coincidence but the only phones mentioned so far are wifi calling capable, and EE stands out as the only wifi calling capable carrier too. So has anyone experimented by turning this feature off?

I haven't, but the battery drain has mainly been happening when there isn't Wi-Fi.

My phone left charge at circa 06:35 this morning and now has 79%, it's connected to Wi-Fi in the office and Wi-Fi calling is available.

If I were to put on Music then the battery will drop like a Steinway off the top the Chrysler building.

P.S. I have reported this as a bug using the feedback app.

Seems less likely to be the cause then, but who knows how this feature affects radio management in general. A hypothetical example, a bug may cause it to constantly attempt WiFi connections even when there are none available, therefore draining it more when there isn't WiFi.

Whatever it is, I just hope this is/was spotted by the carrier testing and fixed for GM!

I have WiFi calling disabled, I previously had it enabled but have not switched back on after putting the EE SIM card back in.

Made no difference to me, still hot and battery draining like a mofo

I was on of the original thread commenters who found this issue. iPhone 6 Plus and EE SIM-only. Phone is baking hot most of the time and battery life is terrible. I was really hoping we'd get another beta to fix this but I heard we'll just have to live with it until the GM on September 9th (if they've even fixed it).

Tell you what we'll do, if you haven't already, everyone on this thread report the issue in the Feedback app and make specific reference to EE and the issue. If they've not noticed it yet, multiple accounts of the same issue will make them notice.

This is worrying, hope they fix it for the GM.

I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 9 on EE SIM only and have no problems whatsoever. I don't, however, have Wifi Calling turned on so I'll turn it on for the rest of the day and see if my battery drains and the phone gets hot.

I also see mention of Apple Music - I have been using that as well and again, no battery issues.

Glad I found this thread! Same issue and I thought it was my 6 Plus getting wacky. I am on EE SIMO and had WiFi calling on. Battery life was dismal and the phone was getting really toasty and battery draining rapidly especially when on calls or SMS. I've turned off WiFi calling now and it's back to normal. Not getting hot now and battery life is back to normal. Have noticed that Apple Music is a battery hog though. Used about 40% in 2 hours with it playing in the background.

Ok, so I've had Wifi Calling turned on for most of the working day now and the battery has certainly drained faster than I would have expected. Not massively but more than normal and no I haven't been prodding the phone to check how much battery is left throughout the day.

So maybe it is related to Wifi Calling. Maybe those suffering from the problem could try disabling the feature for now to see if the situation improves. Of course, if you are in an area with poor signal then you'll probably drain the battery as the phone ramps up the power to communicate with the mast :-(
