Apparently picking up a penny from the sidewalk is theft according to those who are. And if they EVER so much as touch anything that doesn't belong to them I hope they immediately surrender themselves as criminals.
Wow, are you so dim to not see that we are arguing that it is what he did after he touched the phone that constitutes theft?

Back off Jack...there is plenty more being discussed than what you just said.

But back to your arguing on the internet you stud :|

I guess have your grampa or mom and dad explain that there is no difference between lifting out of his pocket and finding it and never returning it and then selling it for profit.
Oh boy... here we go again.

As far as the law is concerned, there is no difference, but for the umpteenth time: I wasn't discussing the legal technicalities here (that snoozefest is so last week), this was about trying to discern what kind of guy this is. A guy who actively goes around snatching stuff from people's pockets... or just a "finders keepers"-minded guy who doesn't normally engage in criminal activity? It's sort of important to the story, and this binary, law-centric POV of yours isn't really helping since it makes no distinction between a professional pickpocket and a regular dumbass.

The phone call, if real, was well after the fact of possession and, in my opinion, deliberately ineffective CMA. Then this "innocent doofus" SOLD IT FOR 5K! This doesn't mean anything to you?
The fact that he sold it for 5K doesn't say whether he asked for 5K or was offered 5K. We have no idea how the deal went down and who came up with the terms. It might be anything from an asking price to an arbitrary number that Chen tossed out there. As for the call being placed "well after the fact of possession", does the fact that "Random Really Drunk Guy" waited until the next morning before calling Apple, rather than try around midnight from a bar, tell you anything other than the fact that the guy was at least smart and sober enough to realize that nobody would be answering anyway, let alone understand what his drunken ramblings were about?

Furthermore, where's the proof that 5K ever exchanged hands? The source is the same Gizmodo story you choose to disbelieve/dismiss on pretty much every other point, so why cherry pick the 5K part as fact? It could be 5 bucks, it could be 50,000 bucks, or no money whatsoever and "Random Really Drunk Guy" could be Jason Chen himself, and Chen may not be Chen but a V lizard in a rubber suit.

My god are people still insisting he STOLE the phone?

It's posts like this one that make the injunction against insults so difficult to abide. Maybe it's just to annoy the three billy goats gruff.

I find posts like yours equally as annoying. Sideways insults directed at one individual are hardly more "appropriate" than my post.

But then again I didn't PAY for a fancy title like "demi god" so maybe my opinion is of less value.

Well, when the penny has the owners logo/name on it and you can easily find their address - yeah, it's stealing.

If the penny is just a penny, then no.

An iPhone that has IPHONE on it and looks to be something NEW - yeah, it's not yours and you need to call Apple and give it back. Not tear the **** out of it and post it for all to see. It's not yours.

Funny because i found a backpack that had a dead ipad in it on the train a few days ago. You know what i did? I Went home and googled the name of the person and i couldn't find them. There was a student ID in the bag also so i drove down to the community college and spent 30 mins trying to find the person.

So yes i found something that didn't belong to me. And while most people would have swiped the ipad. My mother raised me to do the right thing.

And guess what? IF i was unable to find the person i would have taken it to the police

Give me a postal address and I can send you a gold star.

People who have to point out how much better they are than others are usually have things to hide.

I Didn't say i was better than anyone else. I said the right thing to do when you find property is to track the owner down. Now if you think taking peoples property is grand. That's something you will have to answer for one day.

But i treat people the way i want to be treated. And the only thing i have to Hide is that i stooped to a lower level by getting into an argument with someone on a message board

Unfortunately I can't say anything bad here or I will get more infractions or banned. However, if I could - slanderous words and profanities would be flowing through my fingertips which would then translate into words here.

I hope if anyone finds anything of YOURS - they destroy it, record it and put it on youtube. You are just evil.

I never said what you accuse me of but that's how tunnel visioned most people here seem. Since I don't agree it is so black and white in this case I MUST be advocating theft...give me a break

And actually people get away with doing bad stuff all the time and may never have to pay for it...only if the Christian ideal or one similar is true. If we just turn to dirt someone could rape and pillage their whole life and never suffer for it. That doesn't make it right by any means but this "everyone will get theirs" stuff is kind of silly.

Yet I have never wished pain and suffering on anyone here. I would say you are more evil than I am by wishing me problems.

You did the right thing. I would have done the same thing too. I believe in karma and it comes back 10 fold (good or bad). I would want someone to track me down if I lost something valuable.

Some people don't deserve to be alive. Ignore him.

You just called me evil in your last post. Now you say I don't deserve to live. How hypocritical of you.

I also never said returning a lost item was wrong...or that I wouldn't do it. But that's the assumption you made because I didn't like the self congratulatory tone of the post. There really is a "with us or against us" tone here.

Did you join this forum just to agitate people? If so: mission accomplished!

Maybe try contributing a bit more than nonsense and insults.

Giving what I get. There are plenty of examples of more severe violations from others but I don't see you commenting to them. The last person I replied to in this thread said I do not deserve to live...where is your admonishment for such a nasty comment? Maybe try minding your own business :)

Everyone realizes that the thief that stole the iPhone, and Jason Chen, and probably a bunch more from Gizmodo, are almost certainly reading these threads, right? And they may even be posting to them under assumed names or user IDs.

For all we know, PP is the thief that took the iPhone!

For all we know you took it and are trying to divert attention from yourself by playing the part of a concerned citizen. See how that works?
