I have a PowerBook G4 and an iMac G4. I am trying to connect them via a normal standard ethernet cable so I can share files on them. But it doesn't seem to let me. I go into System Preferences and click on "Personal File Sharing." After that I go to: "Go" in the menu bar > "Network" but the other computer doesn't appear there. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: My PowerBook is appearing on the iMac but the iMac isn't appearing on the PowerBook. What am I doing wrong?

Have you tried manually connecting to the iMac's IP address?

Failing that, if you can see the PowerBook from the iMac, you can just move files back and forth from the iMac. That is, you can drag files to or from the PowerBook's shared folders via Finder on the iMac. If this direct ethernet sharing thing is just temporary, it might be easier to do it that way than to bother troubleshooting.
