After the initial rumpus about change of ownership I tried all the alternatives but all had something not quite right and I went back to Bartender, like many others I think...reassured by Ben Surtees post. Think it was much ado about nothing.
The initial concerns about sensitive data collection without explanation from Applause were valid, but I'd largely agree it was a PR blunder. Like I said in my first comment on this article, this feature should really be native.

I had an older version of Bartender and didn't want to pay for an upgrade, long before the acquisition. I don't have a horse in the Surtees or Applause race.

That does not work for image files. Those must be drag and drop.
I just tested it out on PNG and JPG files as well as MP4's, PDFs, etc. and they all moved from one folder location to another folder and back to original folder without any problem.

I'm not running the latest and greatest macOS (Sequoia) though, so maybe Apple removed this "feature" on Sequoia if that's what you're on?

Hmmm, I think you are talking about different things.

In Finder you can use CMD+C to copy files, and CMD+V to paste or CMD+OPT+V to move them. No matter the type of file.

Some good apps in the list. Will definitely try out Local Send. Also interested in NotchNook. Might get that one too.

Yes, I have tried that, not specifically in Finder, just from the desktop. cutting, copying, pasting images does not seem to work. I had to drag and drop. The command-c/v/x works fine for other files, but not for my image files. I was trying a large group of files, not individual files.

Hmm, sounds really strange. 🤔

You mention CMD+X, that is not macOS native. Maybe you have an extension that mess things up?

Anyhow, I use those shortcuts regularly and have never had any problems with it. Just tried again, including image files, no problems.

Really! This support article from Apple seems to indicate otherwise.

I have used those shortcuts extensively for files. It will work for individual files, but I have had difficulty when trying to do a couple hundred image files. The strange part is that sometimes it works, other times it does not work on image files. I don't remember if the problem is related to external volumes.

You misunderstand me; CMD+X is not supported to move files in the Finder. Of course it's supported for text, and have always been. But not for moving files (in contrary to Windows, and there's also something that people debate if it should be or not).
To *move* a file in Finder with shortcuts, you mark the object(s) you want to move, press CMD+C, go to to place where you want to to move it and press CMD+OPT+V.
I know that some extension (eg Supercharge) allows you to use CMD+X to do this.

Or do I misunderstand you maybe? 🙈

I still haven't decided whether I'm still mad about the Bartender thing. Has no one tried this alternative? Just curious how it stacks up in comparison.

Real possibility. I like that answer. I am fairly new to Mac (2 years). and maybe some of my windows habits are still getting in the way. I still use a PC extensively.

I do know I tried to copy some photos and the copy just did not work using Mac commands. It was frustrating and I know (in my mind) I was using the correct keyboard sequence (CMD instead of CTL).

I thought that is what I tried doing. Maybe not. I found dragging and dropping worked and that is what I have been using to copy/move files to and from external drives. That being most of the activity for flogging the files.

Some great picks.

To recommend a few more:
Dato, a menubar calendar/tasks/clocks app

Tot, a simple note-taker app for when you just want to scratch something down quickly

CleanShot X, a much more powerful screenshotting/screen recording utility

I really miss that site about 10yrs ago that would review different macOS applications. It was super useful back then and its sorely missed. I also forgot their name...

CMD+OPT+V
Hrrrmpppphhhh, I was missing the use of the "Option" key, OPT as you indicated. How silly of me and how counterintuitive, and inconsistent, for Apple. Pasting text or other items is just Command-V, but not so for files. Some propeller-head at Apple thought the difference was a good thing.

I learned something and it is always a good day when I learn something.

Thanks for the clarification, and correction.
