Ejecting flashdrives, compact flash cards

Hi:
I have a Sandisk card reader; when I try to eject/unmount a compact flash card, I always get amn error message that says it's in use, and that I should close apps. There are never any apps open! The same happens when I want to revove a flashdrive/thumbdrive.

Is this common; is it fixable?

On the desktop, right click and eject, or drag an icon to the trash which will turn into an eject icon, or click on the eject icon from the finder window.

That's what I do - but I get the message that it's in use!

Do you have any Finder windows open showing the contents of the card? If you do those will prevent ejecting.

Sad to say, the answer is no. I use CS3 for photo editing, and I make sute both it and Bridge are closed; heck, I even close my email app!

Perhaps Spotlight is trying to index your card...
