Hello everyone! I browsed back a few pages and did some googling, but found little to nothing on lock ups except for issues with Office.

What I'm experiencing is a sudden lock up while using safari, nothing else open. The mouse still moves, but no other response from the screen. The mouse become huge for a few seconds, and then return to normal. It will usually unlock after about a minute. Everything after the lock up is very sluggish, menus take 5-10 seconds to appear after clicking. Restart fixes it.

Any ideas on this? I just did a completely clean install of El Capitan, was very while using Yosemite. Nothing else installed other than office and dropbox. Late '13 15" rMBP 2.0ghz

I had this happen to me pretty regularly right after upgrading, though I am pretty sure the problem was because of Chrome. I read a number of people saying it was a known problem and the Chrome developers were already aware of it. Maybe that wasn't the actual case? It doesn't seem to be as big as a problem now, but I don't know what changed.

wow. Thanks for this Thread. Exact same thing happened to me few times already since El Capitan install and i don't think it's Chrome problem because i don't have Chrome on my computer. I did a clean install also.

For sure. I don't know if it is application specific or not. Though I just saw another thread that looks very similar to this: http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/safari-spinning-beach-ball-always.1926891/

One thing they mentioned was removing extensions, I'll try removing adblock :(

Is there anything in the logs we could be looking for?

I also have adblocker installed. Did you remove it? Does it fix the problem?

I can't believe only 2 of us are having this problem??

I am not getting this error but I am getting momentary (2-3 seconds) freezes of the mouse cursor in Safari. The log shows some kind of error with USBMultitouchDevice.

UPDATE: it looks like Ghostery is causing this behavior under El Cap; didn't happen under Yosemite.

I'm having the same issue in since upgrading my 15" retina macbook pro(2012) to El Capitan. Safari becomes unresponsive for about 10 seconds. I have also tried turning of extensions but the issue returns.

Same issue here on my 2015 rmbp that I upgraded.

    Very annoying.

Do you have to restart it or does it eventually work itself out? I'm curious.

Since I made this post, I haven't had it happen again...fingers crossed.

When it did happen, the system would run dog slow after it recovered. Reboot brought it back to normal speed

Same issue here. I've been having it happen since the initial upgrade. Still happens even immediately after a clean install.

I keep my eye on the App store to see if an update is forthcoming, nothing yet. I've thought about using a different browser, but... I really like and have gotten use to Safari. If they can't iron this out soon, perhaps I'll try Opera.

I must say though, this minor problem isn't anywhere nearly as bad as the Wifi issues that plagued Yosemite for the first 2 or 3 months.

Happens to me as well. Very annoying when my supervising physician asks about a result and I have to wait 20 seconds for my computer to unfreeze. Would not be expecting this on a $1400 machine....

I don't know if it's the same problem or not but I get these hangs where the mouse will continue to work but the keyboard stops taking inputs. System becomes incredibly sluggish. Has happened in multiple apps including Office 2016. Only solution is a hard reboot.

This has happened to me more than 3 times this week. What I noticed is that it happens after I put my mbp to sleep while safari is open. Sometimes I can move the cursor, sometimes not. It goes back to normal in between 1-2 minutes. Not using the sleep mode helps but this definitely needs a fix.

Uninstalling Flash seems to have eradicated the occasional unresponsiveness i had in Safari.

Yes, I've been experiencing this problem with Safari regularly for several months now. It has been there since the earliest Betas. It's usually triggered (on my system at least) after closing a tab/window that has an HTML5 video playing (for example, a YouTube tab).

I've submitted this bug multiple times, including sysdiagnoses. At some point I've been told it's a duplicate, so other people have been submitting it as well.

It still has not been fixed on the most recent 10.11.1 DP.
