XtraFinder appears to be incompatible w/ El Capitan...at least on my recently updated MBP. Anyone else having problems with this app?

i don't want to turn sip off just for xtrafinder, is there an alternative that gives me the dark finder background and folders on top option ?

There's other software that does that but the problem again is that SIP needs to be turned off because Apple has locked all those system files and kexts with El Capitan. I'm using cDock and the only way the folders on top and dock modification will work is if SIP is turned off. You can't even modify the system icons as before unless SIP is disabled. :(

I read in there Facebook page someone mentioned you can turn sip off, install xtrafinder then turn sip on again

He says how to turn sip off but doesn't say how to turn it on again

Anybody know how to turn it on , the terminal ?

Sure, it's easy to turn off and on again: You need to boot to your recovery partition first and run the Terminal from there.

Turn it off: csrutil disable

Turn it on: csrutil enable

Make sure you reboot each time.

thanks i was able to get xtrafinder running with sip off, except folders on top option is not working

but when i reenabled sip and rebooted the mac , xtrafinder wouldn't start

maybe i had to reboot onetime after installing xtrafinder?
and then reboot again to turn sip on

i do miss the dark background in finder

No, you're going to need to keep SIP turned off. I've got the same problem with several of my apps which will not run with SIP on. The folders on top should be working though with SIP off. I don't use XtraFinder but it does work with cDock. The best we can hope for is that the developer of XtraFinder and other affected apps will update their apps for El Capitan.
