Large libraries crash often (10,000+ mp3s) and it's a resource hog as well. I prefer to use Vox although since Coppertino took over, it's been high on resources as well. OS X badly needs a solid MP3 player that focuses only on music.

iTunes is a complete mess.

Hm - I have over 80k (mostly) lossless files, and have no such crashes. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I think apple gave me that icon as a bug, by mistake. I re-downloaded iTunes when it was released a few days later on the actual UK site for iTunes and I now have the "proper" icon with a white circle surrounded by a gradient. It doesn't fit in with the rest of the icons but I don't hate it.
You CAN go to DeviantART and do a quick search for "El Capitan iTunes" and you should be able to find a custom icon similar to the one I posted before. I hope this helps! 🙂
