Well the OP did state he's only copying the design for "fun". He made no mention of selling such an item or design. It's everyone else, foaming at the mouth, asking him to make more and sell it. It's made of wood and even if it was based upon the Element Vapor, the OP could just make some "adjustments" and say it was his own. If Element wanted to pursue something against the OP, they best pursue Atomic first, cuz Atomic's case is made out of Aluminum and looks like an exact replica of the Vapor!

i dont think no one can "pursue" or bring anybody to suit for the design of this case. In the beginning when elementcase had not sold a single case, however had the renders on their website with preorder available -- there was a blueprint/rendering for sale of the design of the case on some website. They were selling it for anybody to buy. So this leads one to think that elementcase didn't even come up with the design, they just bought it. I guess atomiccase, and fusionworks said hey why not, and went at it also -- elementcase looks like they were first out the gate.

...probably isn't the most rational idea.

Hang on a sec. Building a "bumper" out of an impact transmitting and electrically conductive material like aluminium, that only shields the metal antenna of a fragile, glass-faced phone, doesn't seem terribly rational either!

Wood is a far better choice: Shock-absorbing, electrically insulating, warm to the touch, gorgeous to look at and self-recycling! I'd wouldn't be surprised if the Vapor folks started producing a limited-edition wood version.

Nice case OP. Terrific idea.

scratches incredibly EASILY , and kiss its a$$ goodbye after 1 drop?
doesn't seem too rational to me bro...u might want to review your math on that one.

but yea it looks great, and im admirin the look.....but wood isn't durable enough for a case with these kind of dimensions

I'm not scratch-phobic, so no math to review there. And I personally kissed $200 goodbye after dropping my iPhone in a less-protective case.

Math review complete. I guess we'll just have to disagree. No prob.

I don't think many materials are... and look good ... and protect the device. I think the op's design is one of the best compromises I've seen so far. What gives me the greatest buzz, however, is that somebody just got on with it and made something.

Man, thats some nice work! One of these out of Purpleheart for one of the the pieces and maple for the other for contrast would be super sexy and super durable.

Actually, not sure why Element or one of the companies that makes a similar case could not just load up wood blanks in their CNC equipment and make them on the same rig with the same program. Especially super hard wood like maple and purpleheart.

To the OP, you clearly have talent and it does look very nice.

However, I have a question which relates to humidity levels in the environment and the case. What would concern me would be warping and the wood expanding or shrinking unless there is some treatment of the wood. Any ideas on this? I would think this would change the fit of the case a lot.

thanks for the normal question :)

with normal wood you do have a humidity and temperature problem, but the change in size due to moisture or temperature is not measurable.
also this is very dense wood and moisture and temperature has little effect on it.

the wood will be sprayed with a semi gloss lacquer witch protects the wood, en will show the features of the wood.

to all other posters:
I will not be selling this, and even if I would you would probably not be able to afford it :) (a few times the price of the original metal Vapor)
as my original post says it is just for fun, and I like to try to make objects out of different materials then the original design, and wood goes very nice with iPhones.

I do sell cases of my own design, but only to a select group of people, who can afford it.
(no I will not show pictures, as these are very exclusive designs)

and the way some people are reacting here and other posts, I would not even like to have these as customers :)

My post was not about materials genius. It was everyone urging this guy to start a business after he blatantly expressed he copied an exact design of another company, just with a different material.

Change up the design, make it out of wood, and then sell it was my point.

So, are you using some type of micro adjustable router jig to do these? The more I think about it, the more I am interested in seeing some of your shop pics.

Sooooo, what makes you think we can't afford it? Are you selling these things for 1,2k? I'll buy one...we only live once right?

WTF? Why do you think no one would afford it here? Or are you saying, we wouldn't agree with your outrageous prices?

Cmon bro, don't disrespect us like that

I don't think he meant it in money terms. Maybe as a figure of speech, some things money can't buy. :)
