Elgato DVR: Must Mac be powered on?

Quick question:

Must the Mac be powered on in order for the eyeTV software to DVR a scheduled program?

In other words, does a product like the Elgato eyetv HD work independently of the Mac so it works when the computer is off?

The Mac has to be awake.

Thanks, that is what I thought.

If the Mac goes to sleep, I take it the Elgato will wake it up?

I wish there was a way to keep the display asleep so that it is not turning on in the middle of the night or whenever someone is not home.
