I preordered Eve weather and must say that so far I am underwhelmed. The measurements seem reliable and accurate. Agreed - the BT range is not great. The complete lack of meaningful guidance that comes with the kit that is so disappointing. Where is the list of Siri commands? There is such a thing as an Apple TV relay function? How do I set it up so that I can use the apple TV relay function?

Little noticed, under-reported phenomenon: The "death" of complete user manuals, installation guides, reference material. Most companies somehow think a very small pamphlet or sticker with a cute icon and one or two sentence "installation instructions" along with the feared phrase "for more info, visit us on the web..." is sufficient.

Now, most product descriptions, even pre-sale, don't bother to fully list all the hardware/software specs so you can't even figure out what you are buying before you do.

Funny thing, I don't see a plethora of technical writers / documentation experts complaining about the lack of jobs. Where are they and what happened to them?

I could see using this for my basement in a future revision. I only have one dehumidifier down there but I probably have to add a second. The dehumidifiers can of course switch on/off automatically based on humidity, but I could use these products to control them by time of day as well. That way, the humidifier(s) would run when electricity is cheap, unless the humidity gets too high, in which case the humidifier(s) should be switched on regardless.

I could also use one with my chickens, come to think of it. When the door's closed and they're stuck inside (at night, in the winter), the air quality in there can get pretty bad. I have a fan, but it's only thermostatically controlled. I was just wishing the other day I that I could have the fan turn on when the air quality got too bad. Once these systems are able to send notifications (iOS 9?), with some "if this then that" type programming they could be really useful.
