I renewed a 2 year contract with AT&T and got my iPhone 4 on launch day. When I dial #new* I get a message that I may qualify for a full discount on 6/25/11 - I thought a full discount was only available after 18 months - and even then only if AT&T was feeling generous. Am I reading this wrong?

Question is MAY be eligible for upgrade. I think Droid's/iPhone's/Win7 phones are the only exception to the rule. For all other dumb phones they have, you can probably get a full upgrade every year for those. For the high tech phones though, it's hit or miss sometimes. Some people can get full upgrades after a year, some can't. I think I recall certain people with large accounts or family plans with 4/5 phones on it get some leeway. From past releases though, whenever new iPhones come out, AT&T will broaden the upgrade time about several months. Just to be on the safe side though, I'd probably call and get confirmation of this.

Mine was February or March of 2012, but was recently moved to 11/19/2011. Hopefully it moves to June/July to get the new phone, if it is a major component upgrade (32/64GB, larger screen, A5 processor, 1080p recording).

If you pay for unlimited minutes and text I believe att gives you an earlier upgrade than others. That is the case with my girlfriend right now.

She has unlimited talk and text and her upgrade is in June '11 and I have a 450 minute plan and my upgrade is in Nov. '11 and we both bought the iphone 4 same day.

They usually push people's upgrade time around the iPhone launch or announcement. AT&T knows we love to get every iPhone that launches so they push our dates up a year usually. This will probably be the deal this year also. AT&T loves keep us as customers after all.

I get "A full discount on a standard handset or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 11/25/2011.". Says iPhone, and not dump phone. Mine also says November, but I'm guessing the OP got the same message with different date.

if you purchase at launch, you will likely be eligible after just one year (so you can buy the next iPhone). That's the way it's been so far.

You can upgrade every 12 months if you are the primary on the account and pay $100+ a month for your bill. That is the case for me anyways.

Same here

Got mine on 9/23/10 & it says I "may" be eligible for a full upgrade on 9/23/11. I'm also the primary line & definitely pay over $100.

"As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee." that's what I get, doesn't say a date tho and I got my iPhone 4 a day before release.

Trust me, they don't like you in general (Goes for all their customers) But they do love that $199 you're paying them each year for a new phone. Along with those outrageous phone bills. Don't think AT&T is doing you the favor. You're doing them the favor.

Honestly, they probably don't appreciate the $299 I give them every year, they probably want more. It's a subsidized phone, I actually think it's a good deal. I don't plan on leaving AT&T now that they've seriously worked on their network in my neighborhood. Yearly upgrades are also a huge plus, Verizon doesn't allow any early upgrades when you sign/renew contracts as of a few months back. The FAN discount's also a big plus. $17.60 off my voice plan alone and only $23.40 for each of my unlimited data plans. No discount on texting though, no biggie.

Let's say I tinker my plan to be $100+ two months prior to the summer, and leave it like that for that time. Would AT&T still consider bumping your eligibility? My bill's at around $75 per month for a single line, and paying $100+ for a bit would be fine if that would work. I got my iP4 back in early August and I'm not eligible for an upgrade until April 2012.

I got it on the 23rd too, but mine still says 11/19/2011.
I wonder if it will change, I guess I have at least 2 1/2 months for it to change though. My bill was $76 per month though, til I just bumped it to unlimited txting, now its ~$83 or $84 a month.

I'd like to know too. I would need to add the unlimited family text messaging plan for it to be over 100 or if I remove my 20% FAN discount, I should be in and around 100 but would only do it if I can upgrade again in a year.

I GET..

We can offer you an early iPhone upgrade with 2-yr commitment and $18 upgrade fee at participating iPhone sales location. Additional discounts for all other handests may be available on 2/25/12.

edit* - My bill is about $190 2 iphones n a non smart phone.
