Call any provider about virtually everything and you will get a different answer depending on the day of the week or time of day you call. Same goes here, but you get them all nice and neat in the form of a forum thread.

Great! I too was wondering the same thing you were and then it dawned on me that if I want to find out what information I'll need, why not just check the source and go straight to Apple's website and make a fake order for the iPhone 4S. It'll ask me for the same account information as it would for a preorder. Glad I could answer your question, though!

You'll definitely need to go through Verizon when you preorder if you want to use your $50 credit, unless you can have them apply the $50 credit to your account after you order on Apple's website. I'd try asking them about that as I have no idea if they'd even be able to do that.

That credit is only good for purchasing a phone thru VZW. Period.

Yea, I did that just before posting. I got the answer I was looking for but figured if I could piss a couple people off by asking on the forums, I'd go ahead and do that too...

So I've been sitting on my verizon upgrade for almost a year now waiting for the next iPhone before I use it.

I would like to order on the first day available however I've never gone through the process with the iPhone. I have a 4s right now but I bought it well after the release (nov/dec).

So the question is, how does this work? Do I HAVE to buy it through Verizon when it becomes available for order? I understand you can buy it from Apple but then how do you get your subsidized price?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The best thing to do is to order it from the Verizon site the day it becomes available for preorder. The earlier you order the more likely that it will ship before release. Ive ordered two phones from vzw on preorders and i had them in my hand before they were officially released.

I've just never ordered anything from the verivon website but I have from apple. So when the latest iPad came out I got it on apples website. I'm familiar with the process which will come in handy when you have to act quick.

Gotcha, gotcha. That makes perfect sense. I've always just went to the AT&T store for my two iPhones, neither of which I've received ON the release day, and got my iPad at Walmart.

I had an upgrade/contract renewal when the 4s came out. I signed in through the verizon website at 1am (whenever they opened the flood gates) the night they started taking orders.

I received my 4s at my door the day it was released.

Another FYI is that the Apple site went down because of traffic demand but verizon stayed up. Another thing to think of when debating apple vs verizon website.
