Ellen is a real person, not an actress or a politician who are "fair game" for this kind of talk.

In fact, she is someone's daughter and she is probably someone's sister and maybe someone's granddaughter.

Several people owe them an apology, imo.

Sorry, but public domain says different.

The moment she taped the commercial and it aired on TV she entered public domain...

...freedom of speech is what makes this country great, and you have every right to disagree with me on that, too.:D

where's the video of that one kid from the MW neynote about the iPod, i wanted to show my dad that one....and i really want that will ferrell one, that was great!
and she's not that bad, not good either, but not that bad...ok, rambling into a hole, i'll stop now...

#1 'person' to appear in future (August?)Switcher campaign............
Mike Myers as Austin PowerMacs.... In fact why not have Mike impersonating these oddballs as a reprise?
P.S. I seriously doubt that this campaign would work here in Europe.......FAR TOO DULL!
The more folk desperately try to appear 'normal 'in front of a camera, the odder they appear..!
The line I interpret from these ads is that these characters are running from Windows.....NOT running to Apple.

You all seem to be forgetting...

These are regular people. Not actors. They're supposed to be approachable, realistic... and sometimes appearing not so bright.

"Even stupid people on drugs can use our computers. But, there's cool stuff for the office, multimedia, and geeks too". Something for everybody.

She looks pretty young, though. I'd say late high-school, MAYBE early college. For those of you accusing others of being perverts, you're forgetting all of the youngsters on these forums. She'd be a high-school geeks dream girl.

Little young for me (I'm in my 20's), and kinda... you know, out of it ;) I think. But I can see why she'd be popular for the teens and pervs. She seems pretty real.

I bet she was just nervous.

Or high.

Rower, you miss the point. This isn't a First Amendment issue. Its an issue of human decency and frankly, maturity.

I've started a petition to make people stop making mean, nasty, comments about poor ellen.

It;s with the "i want jaguar and .mac for free" petitions.

This forum has gone to pot quicker than Ellen on commercial day since yesterday.

Oh that's helping your cause, ha!

Anyway, sure the people are on the boards, its tough to be in the public eye, but that's the way it goes. You can't please everybody and also remember your seeing these people in the spot light, ok? You're all too jaded from seeing ads and commercials with all the beautiful people and can't handle reality and lash back at it. If you knew these people personally, saw them in their daily lives, you'd not think twice about it and definitely not give them crap for how they appear. Lighten up.

Alpha, lets see you in a video, hell, we're still waiting to see a pic of you. And playing that excuse of not doing it because it might get used in an *altered* image and posted to the boards is lame.

I still refuse to take a picture of myself... so deal with it  :D I know how more then a few of you here will make 'alterations' to it, and that thread will go to sead too damn fast.

If I am ever in a video, you won't know it... :D

Is that in the same region as the people whining about iTools now having an annual fee?? I swear (often too), some people are not happy unless they have something to b*tch about.

BTW, if you cannot take the comments, then don't read the threads... :p

You're too worried about it. If you ever go to a Geekfest you might as well get use to the idea that you're mug is going to be online. And by protesting so loudly you're only making yourself a bigger target.

Once again, I disagree.

If I want to say something, even if it's negative or "indecent", I'm allowed.

I commented on this commercial because I think it's funny. Regardless of whether or not she was on something during the filming, that's the impression that she gives...and that's all we have to go on.

Quite frankly, people are way oversensitive these days and the politically correct movement has gone way too far. Why weren't you speaking up when the first round of ads came out and people were teasing those guys?

Like banning tag in schools in California because it will give the kids who get caught a lot a inferiority complex?

I feel as though if you share yourself with the world, you have to be able to deal with getting comments, regardless what they are, whether its a mature response or a gratuitous taunt shouldn't matter.

They've gone further than that...they've tried to ban the Pledge of Allegiance as well because one girl's parents objected.

I'm pretty sure the first court sided with the parents, but it's either in appeals court now or on its way.

Don't get me started on that one. There was a thread just on this subject, though so we shouldn't get side tracked here.

Ellen's got her 15 minutes - it might actually last longer. And if she's on the boards, she probably won't come forward, and I don't blame her. But the ad is entertaining, regardless of what her mental state was, so that's it as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed.:)

I bet if she had told her instructor that her computer ate her paper, they would have given an extension. In the windblows world, they tend to do the worst things to people, at the worst time (for them). Mac's on the other hand, won't eat your paper, no matter how abusive you are to them.

Then again, I tell people to save often when they are working on files that are even mildly important. Saving every 5-10 minutes can save you a lot more then that if the computer decides to snak on your project. :D

Well that's just common sense, regardless of the computer you're working on. Hell, you could have a power failure and if its not a laptop with a battery or you have a ups - say goodbye to what ever you're working on. Also, applications can crash, or the system freeze up - macs, pcs, what ever you work on. I know its happened to me quite a few time before.

Two points:

First, a few earlier posts made sexual allusions to Ellen. She has done nothing to deserve that, and plus, imo, she may be quite a bit younger than some think, almost certainly a minor. That in particular is what went over the line.

Second, Rower, I fully support your RIGHT to say anything. Heck, I've even defended ole Alpha Bubba when he was venting. I am not referring here to RIGHTS, I am appealing to people's RESPONSIBILITIES as humans, especially as pertains to a child.

I have three daughters, ages 19, 11, 9. That's where I'm coming from.

Well, I totally understand your point, but we don't know if she is or isn't a minor - so until that's determined its kind of tough to force the moral agenda. But she is seen by some (not all, I know) as a rather cute and funny girl/woman - and in a male dominated site, its almost unreasonable to expect no comments. The nice thing is that we can come here and debate the issue and maybe change some people's outlooks to a better perspective.

And, for the record, it could be 15 year old boys doing the cat calling, so that takes care of the age issue. You have to remember that there are all types online. It would be nice to have one of the women come in here and give us their perspective.

Ah...I see.

I never made those kind of comments, and was not referring to them in my arguments. I was referring to the title/point of this thread: her appearance of being "high".

Glad we cleared that up.:)

I know you didn't make those comments.

PS Here's another take on Ellen in the ad...maybe she was just scared to death..."deer in the headlights" expression?

Did'nt think ANYTHING could be worse than Jeff!

Is this merely an advert that's being discussed, or am I missing something?
I am proud to be a non-PC non PC using individual.
Culture of Complaint? Not half!
Apple.....PLEASE do NOT run this set of ads. in the UK......To us, they come over as a bunch of losers.

that's an interesting point, one I'd like to discuss a little. Someone else mentioned that these ads wouldn't work in europe, can someone tell me what would work for a switch ad over the water?
