It's pretty obvious what will happen. "Official" checks will only go to politicians and corporations. The "evil elites" Elon and his cronies are so jealous of (celebs, legit journalists, tech reporters, etc.) will not qualify.

Then he is free to manipulate the algorithm so that the lies, misinformation and conspiracy theories spouted by the right will miraculously float to the top of search results, trending topics, etc. Real journalists will be downranked. And since the algorithm is a black box to most, nothing can be done to stop him, besides leaving Twitter.

Is it just me or Elon Musk has been seeking attention desperately?

I don't think he knows exactly what he is doing or what he wants. He seems so lost.
That’s how it’s been since the minute he signed the deal to purchase Twitter. It’s why he desperately tried to get out of that deal, which of course he couldn’t do because he foolishly signed it without any due diligence beforehand.

Exactly,

Remember, he tried to get out of the deal because of BOTS!

But what the media failed time and time again to mention was that he signed off on the bots and the entire Twitter structure as it was.

Like buying a home without a home inspection to ensure it does not have termites.

The "brilliant billionaire" just ran off his mouth yet again and tried to use the bots as an excuse to get out of the deal since he knew it was a bad one well before the trial date.

One would think using slack or some other messenger rather than through the press would be a better way for Crawford and Musk to communicate, but I guess this is how Musk wants to run Twitter

I love this. Twitter Has become the most exciting tech company within the last couple of weeks, all because it feels like old fashioned tech. It‘s one guy making decisions and we’re seeing it happen in real time. It’s really fun to watch.

As to verification? I don’t care. Twitter was created as a service to bring people together, not one where professional journalists and celebrities get to smell their own farts. But those people just love their ”blue check” and use it as a hammer to discount the opinions of those who don‘t have one.

I’m going to really enjoy seeing where this all goes, whether Twitter under Musk finds massive success or crashes and burns.

Well, he's trying to make things better, maybe it'll work maybe not. I only followed 5 ppl on Twitter and they're now all on the alternative open platform, so now I am too. With no unwanted ads/Trending/Sponsored/Suggested taking up half my feed and sidebar.

It may not be able to compete with Twitter but for the time being I'm enjoying the peace.

This is actually fantastic. Equal access to the blue check mark.

Additionally, I welcome him taking swift action. He can proceed quickly and modify course based on feedback. Life is not perfect… and it’s not going to matter if Elon makes mistakes or backtracks along the way… he is someone who gets things done. Glad he is here shaking things up.

Really surprised to see so many people complaining here… 🤔

Can’t tell if this is parody or you’re just another unctuous Elon stan.

Verification was created to ensure the person claiming they're Arnold Schwarzenegger is in fact Arnold Schwarzenegger and not a crypto scammer, or that it's an actual elected official so an impersonator doesn't start an international incident, or it's the real customer support for a bank so you don't give your info away to a hacker overseas. Despite whatever chip you have on your shoulder, it protects twitter users from getting scammed and twitter the company itself by making the service more valuable.

Is Elon a Mac user, or did I miss something?

If Facebook is the junkyard of the internet, Twitter is a base model AMC Hornet sedan sitting in the back of the lot with a missing engine and oily dirt underneath it.

And two missing tires, with the remaining tires having steel belts showing.
Have you ever been to any of the *chans?

You don’t get to be the richest man in the world without knowing what you’re doing.

I agree with what he’s trying to do with the blue tick. There are far too many entitled people of Twitter that think they’re better than everyone else because they’ve been considered godlike enough to receive a blue tick. Making it a paid feature available to anyone puts it on a fair and level playing field.

The official label just makes a joke of the whole thing though. I don’t agree with that.
On paper, largely due to the stocks he holds and leverages against for loans. He is nowhere near Mansa Musa.

I have worked with CEOs who shoot from the hip or make major decisions on a whim, only to have them reverse or contradict themselves moments later. It's jarring and uncomfortable, to say the least. I genuinely feel bad for their product teams.
Steve Jobs changed his mind often and it worked out pretty well for him. Better than stubborn fools who refuse to change their minds even when new data shows they should.

This is just embarrassing. No strategy, no planning, just using millions of users as a beta test. No, scratch that. Even a beta test is more thought out than this. This is just throwing random ideas to the wind. Being an employee there right now must be god awful.

This exact statement has always been true of Twitter.
