eMac / iTunes kernel panic

I have an eMac (G4, 700mhz, 768mb ram......yes I know it's old and decrepit...but so am I 🙂)) and when playing music using iTunes 9.0, my machine crashes with a "kernel panic." I'm only playing songs stored on the hard drive.
Can anybody shed any light as to what might cause this?

most common source of kernel panics is the ram , but does not have to be
apple hardware test found on your install disc 1 should tell you if the ram has any problem
