I have a USB 2.0 eMac and would like to upgrade the memory. A quick google search + system profiler lists the memory as PC2700 memory. I swapped in a 512 PC2007 PQI ram stick along with the existing samsung one and my eMac didn't recognize it. I was under the impression that memory worked equally in macs and PCs? Is there certain ram I should buy for my eMac?

Many macs (especially PowerPC) are very picky about what memory they will function on. Even though you have the right class of ram it may have the wrong timing.

Its always best with PowerPC macs to buy ram thats sold as compatible for the machine you have.

The EEPROM on the DIMM needs to be programmed correctly.

Even if the memory would work and is tested at higher speeds in a PC or test bench, if the EEPROM doesn't correctly ID it -- the Mac considers it bad RAM.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a certain brand that would work well?
