Hmm, Gawker media runs a story with the title:

Apple's Worst Security Breach: 114,000 iPad Owners Exposed

and also happens to be the parent company of Gizmodo. However, they state in the article:

AT&T closed the security hole in recent days, but the victims have been unaware, until now. For a device that has been shipping for barely two months, and in its wireless configuration for barely one, the compromise is a rattling development. The slip up appears to be AT&T's fault at the moment, and it will complicate the company's already fraught relationship with Apple. But it will also likely unnerve customers thinking of buying iPads that connect to AT&T's cellular network.

...

Anyone else detecting just a hint of an agenda here?

Macrumors just copy and pastes news story's, they don't actually write them. (reply to post #9)

And you can hardly make the claim that it has significantly hampered their success. One could make the argument that they might have enjoyed greater success if they offered the iPhone on another carrier (like Verizon), but there is no direct proof of that.

Too bad I made no such claim. You, on the other hand, implied that Apple's stock success was directly related to AT&T exclusivity.

Are you aware what has happened to Apple's stock price and market cap since the iPhone was introduced on AT&T exclusively?

I'd say it's working out pretty well.

Yeah. Ok.

Thanks, AT&T.

Of course, as already noted this will get hyped as an Apple mistake, because that is the agenda nowadays.

Gizmodo/Gawker beat you Macrumors. I came here first expecting to see it.

They also have an agenda. Why else would they give the title "Apple's Worst Security Breach: 114,000 iPad Owners Exposed" to a story on how AT&T's website gave out information to individuals that it shouldn't have?

Funny how you observed that! I too first saw Gawker.com article. What can you expect from them anyways! Sour losers...LOL

This could be terrible PR for the iPad - I'm expecting 75% of newspapers/magazines/websites to run headlines that give readers the false impression that this is a security issue with the iPad itself (or with Apple).

EDIT - Just as I predicted! The very article MacRumors linked to is headlined "Apple's Worst Security Breach: 114,000 iPad Owners Exposed".

Exactly. Way to go Gawker in leading the way in misleading the masses :(

Granted, it's an Apple device, but it's obviously an AT&T issue. My guess, though, is that an IPAD SECURITY BREACH garners a lot more attention than an AT&T-titled headline. Journalists...

Still, maybe the truth will eventually get through to everyone and we'll eventually see the iDevices make their way to another carrier...

Apple - Steve.....My god, what is it going to take for you to understand that you must cut your ties with this disaster of a company before they destroy YOUR reputation ......

although it's possible that confidential information about every iPad 3G owner in the U.S. has been exposed

Talk about scare tactics. I see some bitterness toward Apple in between the lines.

AT&T and Apple have yet to comment on the situation.

Uh, why would Apple comment on it? This is AT&T's problem, isn't it? I don't imagine Apple is happy about it, nor should AT&T's customers be, but it's not Apple's place to comment on it.

So is this just WiFi+3G iPads affected?

Okay after some thinking, why would AT&T have iPad WiFi addresses when it does not use AT&T Service. It is a 3G only issue ;)

Wow that sucks. Heads are probably going to roll at AT&T. Just out of curiosity, I wonder if SJ's actual email address (you know the one that he actually reads himself) got leaked by this?

Don

Isn't it well known anyway?

And it was on screen in the last keynote. I think when he filled out the info for the Nissan contest.

Of course the Gawker article makes it sound like it's all Apple's fault (not even mentioning AT&T until the 3rd paragraph), but they're not bitter...
