Email messages are gone

I have great issue on MacBook. I installed MS Office on my machine some weeks ago. Today I've opened my Inbox and I couldn't find many of important messages. Most of them is related to my job. What are doing when something strange issue happens?

Are you using POP or IMAP? Does your email service offer webmail? If so, have you checked if the missing messages are there?
