email on my mac

I am new to mac and i want to know how i can get an email account on my mac. Can i use my yahoo email and just check it on the email icon on my mac or do i need to get a new mac account. thanks i don't think this is the right place to post this but i would appreciate the help thanks again.

Sure you can. Open up mail and set up your yahoo account. The mail app will then receive your email.
