But....but....but. I thought everything was all Tim's fault and not Steve? I thought he did it all perfectly?

(I am saying this to those that keep saying Tim needs to go, Steve would have never have allowed this, ...)

I love the “CONFIDENTIAL” marks in the email thread, yet here we are reading everything in the open.
Proof that there’s nothing that can stay confidential!

I knew Eddy Cue was not as bad as the haters said he was. Here he is the truth fighting for app creators.

didn’t Apple get in trouble with the law already about bookstore vendors vs iBooks a few years ago?

What really gets me is how people latched on to the humanitarian aspect of Apple and expected more and more of that from a for-profit company. Apple primarily exists to make money. If they can do some good for the world while meeting business goals, they strive to, and I’m all for it. But please, stop trying to demand that Apple operates like a non-profit and social organization because that will never be the case.

CEO and execs discuss things that CEOs and execs discuss the world over.

Pictures at 11...

No idea why anyone is surprised by any of this. Please don't tell me that anyone thought that Jobs was a Rainbow-farting Unicorn hugger who invited the execs up for a pot of tea and to play board games?

Good grief people!

I'd pay to read email exchanges between Steve Jobs/Tim Cook and their leadership teams when they built these amazing products.

Ruthless: having or showing no pity or compassion for others: a ruthless manipulator.

Humanitarian: compassionate, humane; unselfish, altruistic, generous, magnanimous, benevolent, civilized, merciful, kind, good, sympathetic; rare benignant. ANTONYMS selfish

How Buffett is humanitarian but ruthless? LOL

Regarding Amazon not selling books within its iOS Kindle app, its no surprise that Amazon told Apple to piss off and did the latter when Apple said use our payment system or stop selling books here. And we are in the same place a decade later. Both of them are public companies that will take a PR black eye and offer less than optimal user experience in order to not be seen carrying the other guys water for them.

Maybe FRAND could be a useful model with regard to App Stores and it could also be based on blockchain to showcase a good use of that technology.

The real problem is that various governments have not bothered to update laws meaningfully to reflect the paradigm shift created by globalisation, the proliferation of electronics and the internet. The smartphone in my pocket has more computing power than the one that took us to the moon and can do things that have decimated entire industries.

Frankly, its cutthroat competition out there and will remain so until governments get off their asses, figure out **** from protections for gig economy jobs to how to define monopolies and force all of these companies to play ball.

A large part of the problem is the current atmosphere where capitalism is viewed solely through the lens of competition (Thanks Wall Street!). Collaboration is equally important but is generally seen as requirement within companies rather than as an requirement between companies as well. I think it behooves the government to consider laws that foster more collaboration between companies.

The lie is that they treated all developers and app providers the same, when in truth they were offering special deals (like discounted fees) to Amazon (and probably others).

What discounted fees? The issue in these documents was that Amazon was offering Kindle purchases through its iOS app (with no fees to Apple), so Apple forced it to halt those purchases.

Honestly, the Kindle thing doesn’t bother me at all.
In fact, I completely understand Apple wanting to take a cut of Amazon’s profit, from people, who downloaded Kindle on an Apple product, using Apple’s App Store, and to read on Apple’s product.
What does disturb me is this Prime deal that was mentioned.
I get that Amazon Prime was one of the last apps to come to the Apple TV, and it was highly requested, but I still don’t like the idea of Amazon getting special treatment, even if it leads to Prime now available on The Apple TV. It’s still slimy.
All developers, no matter if they are 13 year olds coding from there parent’s basement, all the way up to Amazon and Google, should be treated equally when it comes to the fees they have to pay, and the tools they have at their disposal

Welcome to business guys.

This is very tame compared to what really goes on in business every day.
lol, It's anti consumer, funny how that isn't your first observation. We all know it goes on in business everyday.

And this is why, kids, you should never trust online companies like Google and Facebook with your information and look for services that care about your privacy.

E-mails from 2011? Don't they delete e-mails? Maybe they used Gmail 🤣 🤣 🤣

Well that is some pretty damning evidence. Phil “No special deals my ass” Schiller.

No you guys don’t. You think you do, but you have no idea. This is NOTHING and far from “anti consumer.”

As a software developer, I have zero interest in learning how to build native iOS apps because the percentages Apple charges are obscene. I am not alone. They are absolutely stifling innovation at this point of the lifespan of the App Store. It made more sense a decade ago.

Actually, it’s worse than that. They are causing unintended societal damage. Small businesses can’t survive this. The only products that survive this are well known giant brands like Amazon or apps that are free. Aka apps that either make money through investors or by selling user data to advertisers. What a joke.
