I have run into an interesting application behavior in Open Office recently. When you have a text document open, if you drag a .png file into the document, it opens it in draw instead of embedding it in the document. The only way you can bring it in I have found is to go to the Insert > Picture > From File dialog to place it.

I googled around for some solutions. Found a few threads where people mention they ran into this but no conclusive workaround or solution. Has anyone else ran into this? is there a way to modify the behavior to make it a little more user friendly?

Hi there,

I agree that its maybe not the most intuitive behaviour, but I think you're stuck with it.

One interesting alternative I have found is to select (not open) the image file in Finder, copy it with cmd-C and then paste it into your document. Seems to work with png and psd files at any rate - that's all I've tested.

Good luck!

Rob

Wow, thanks this works! I would not have thought of that...
