Other Emoticons Not Showing in Messages?

I just noticed today that emoticons are not showing in some messages, just the phrase associated with the emoticon (see attachment). Is this a big or something else?

Not positive, but it might have something to do with it not being an iMessage? Your text bubble is green not blue.

Those are called - reactions - not emoticons and they only work for iMessage not traditional text.
