Hi I was trying to empty my trash which in total was 213 items, I clicked empty and a box came up to say do I want to delete the non secure items also... Or something like that. I accidently clicked yes. Then it proceeded to count how many files it was going to delete and reached like 160,000 items and counting. So I cancelled the empty trash as I thought this isn't right surely. Any ideas on what is wrong there??

Thanks.

Do you have 213 individual items in your trash, or are some of them folders? If you're throwing away folders with stuff in them, then the count that you see in the actual trash folder will be much lower than the total files it counts to be deleted.

Not sure about the non secure items thing. I've never had that come up before.

You're going to have to go through the items in your trash to see which folder contains all of those files. You may have accidentally placed something in the trash you don't want to delete.

If one of the was a program, thats normal, when I removed MS OFFICE et all I had 700,000+ files

Hi, ive just realised in my trash there was quite a few folders, and also a backup folder which i was deleting off my ex HD, so that explains it. I also had the message there are Locked items which you are deleting... etc... and not non secure items as i previously said. Thanks for your replies it seems to be emptying the trash ok now.

Thanks
