Okay here's my problem.
I plug in my ipod, it syncs with my itunes, then it disconnects itself before I can even click on Enable diskuse. I've already enabled it before so within those 10 seconds it syncs with the itunes, i can view the ipod harddisk in My Computer.
Then it disconnects by itself after syncing. Itunes tells me that my ipod is still connected but it's actually not. It's disconnects and goes into powercharge mode.

I need to back up some files and this is really giving me a big headache.

This is normal - you have to enable it from within iTunes, not the Finder. Once this is done your iPod will mount on your desktop like any other disk. Odds are that somehow the enable disk use setting got unchecked, perhaps because you had to restore your iPod to a factory state after you set it before.

I did check it from Itunes. I'm on Windows XP at the moment.
It just automatically disconnects itself before I can click on enable diskusage.

My iPod does this too, when I sync it. It disconnects from the Finder but not from iTunes. That doesn't stop me from going back into iTunes and turning enable disk use on, though.
