That was the first thing I tried, then rebooted, but Front Row still won't come back. I tried unplugging and plugging in the mouse (it's an Apple mouse that came with my daughter's iMac G3).

I'm going to redo the whole process again (again) and see if the permissions are messed up again.

If I buy one of those mira IR receivers, will Front Row start working?
No it does not recognize it in such a way to make front row activate.

Have you connected a wired mighty mouse too it? If so could you please send me a copy of the Info.plist file to macman64 at gmail dot com and i will take a look at it to see if your making a mistake. Also i am willing to talk about this on AIM or msn or whatever you use some time if your interested.

EDIT: I noticed some of you are using the wireless mighty mouse. This is the reason as it uses a different driver. I will look for which one it may be.

Well i have done some searching in my system and i think i might know what to do for the wireless mighty mouses. However i can't test it in any way. So this is provided as is!

If you drill down to system>library>extensions>IOBluetoothHIDDriver.kext>contents>info.plist
Then go to IOkitpersonalities now in both the IOAppleBluetoothHIDDriver and in the IOBluetoothHIDDriver make a child object item call it HIDRemoteControl make it Boolean and make it true. And remember to do this in both the IOBluetoothHIDDriver and IOAppleBluetoothHIDDriver. Save it set permissions back(well remember to change them in the first place so you can edit the file)

Then delete the same two cache files. Restart and hopefully it will work with your bluetooth mighty mouse. However i can't guarantee anything!! Do this at your own risk I can't test it in any way! This is just what logically should work. I don't program or anything like that. I don't think it should cause any problems at all though. As your just adding strings not taking any away. Back up the file before hand in case you need to restore it in single user mode. But i don't think there will be any problem.

Trainguy77 thanks a lot.. your last suggestion made it all work. :)

Besides an obligation to install IR receivers in the Mac Pros, why would Apple not have this enabled to begin with?

So that they can sell us brand new Cinema Displays with built in IR as well?

After all the Mac Pro is usually under a desk, you want the receiver on the desk, thats my take on it anyway

Excellent I am glad it worked. Now that it works if you ever want to upgrade to the latest version you can download it from the apple site run the PowerPC install part of the enabler to update it. Then redo the hack i just mentioned last post.

Cool that's good to know :)

Also.. i bought that Mira IR reciever (haven't got it yet) and the original Apple remote and was hoping to use that with Frontrow but i have no idea how to set those up.
Is anyone using Mira and a remote?

Yes I am using Mira and the apple remote.

Perfect :D how did you set it up? or is it just to connect it and start using it?

Yeah it was very straight forward once i got front row working you simply plug the IR thing in. Then install the software. At that point you can use it for front row, but i went ahead and configured the buttons to my liking for other applications too.:D

Is the receiver powerful enough to pick up signals that aren't in the line of sight?

has anyone been able to get this to work with a Logitech cordless mouse (not bluetooth) and USBOverdrive??

if so, how? :)

steve.

I tried this and it works great!

However, I had to use the FrontRowPass.kext and put in my vendor/product ID in there.

I use a TV as the front row monitor. Unfortunately, this is not my primary.

I plan to use a command line utility called 'cscreen' to toggle between my TV and main monitor as my primary on the fly, with the help of some javascripts.

Here's where you can find cscreen:

Here's how to swap using cscreen:

Here is some more stuff including how to integrate video_TS and xvid into front row:

I'm connecting my computer to my TV in my living room using a 50 foot HDMI and 50 foot optical.

Front row is gonna be freakin sweet.

WOOT! IT WORKS!

There are tiny specs in the black areas of the video for the first minute after you turn on the TV, but I think that's the length of the cable depolarizing or some such weird physics of weak currents and long cables.

Thanks to trainguy777 for all this info!

No problem my pleasure :)

I've got front row working on my macpro. I have an apple remote, and I have a cinergy XS with an IR receiver plugged into my macpro, does anybody know of a way to use that IR receiver with the apple remote to control front row?

Also, the movies I have in iTunes don't show up in front row? I think I may have an out of date copy because the music note in the iTunes logo is green and not blue, but no updates are coming up in software update?

Well to fix the update thing you need to use the powerPC enabler only the installer section to install the new version of front row which you get from the apple site.

Have your tried pairing the apple remote yet?

Im not sure if I did what you said, I downloaded the latest front row update and used pacifist to install it, because the installer said it would only install on a mac with a IR receiver. The update seems to be working fine.

The Cinergy XS is a freeview tuner, it has an IR receiver on it. Both the apple remote and it's own remote control EyeTVs menu when it is open, but if I don't open EyeTV both remotes do nothing. I'm guessing I would need a program to interface with the XS to use it's IR receiver, but unlike EyeTV pass the IR input onto OS X instead of EyeTV? Does anyone happen to know of a program that would do this?

Thanks

Wasn't what i was thinking but if installed fine then don't worry about it. :D I never knew you could update that way.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302545 try following that. Of coarse instead hold it by your IR receiver. It should show a chain link on the screen.

If that doesn't work maybe the Mira software would? You could give the shareware version a try if that^ doesn't work.
