Folks - Is 'enable messges in iCloud' in macOS messages required to get iMessages on the Mac? Supposedly not as I get them but with a delay (sometimes hours or even a day later). Can someone explain?

Thx

Not required.

Enable Messages in iCloud just mirrors the data there, and enables your Messages to Sync as-requested.

Great feature when setting-up a New device.

Got it - how do I troubleshoot not receiving messages on my macOS instantly at the same time as my iPhone (enable messages in cloud is turned off)

Messages in iCloud Also takes space up at iCloud and unless you paying for extra space there may not be enough.

I don't have it turned on and my Mac Studio is getting messages at the same time as my iPhone. You should try all the sign in/sign out stuff to see if you can get things working correctly.

One bad thing about have messages in iCloud OFF is having to delete spam messages on each device separately…and in an election year there seem to be a lot for me.

I'm with BrianBaughn . . . iMessage on my Mac(s) get messages at the same time as the iPhone.

Play with it a bit more, per suggestions.

I am using Messages in iCloud, and have encountered issues with the Mac not getting messages right away - likely unrelated to iCloud at all. For me, signing out/in on the Mac (in Messages settings) seems to have sorted it but suffice to say it’s solvable.
