I just installed Lion yesterday and when I plug in my Time Machine disk (external over Firewire) - it makes a new backup just fine but I don't see any options to make local snapshots and if I disconnect the disk, I can't enter Time Machine to browse local snapshots - am I missing something or does it require I wipe out my Time Machine and start fresh (which I don't mind doing)?

I'm also guessing if I reformat my Time Machine disk, I will be able to select "Encrypt backup disk" which is greyed out at the moment if I select my Time Machine disk.
