I have just updated my iPhone 4 to 10.5.1 OS. It tells me that the iPhone backup is encrypted. I have no recollection of setting the encryption setting on the I phone backup.

Any clues of how to get out of this one would be great.

Next question, will encryption apply to the iPad backup using the same iTunes library. How can I check this?

Many thanks

Charles

To your first question: No, unless you remember that password, there is no way around it. You'll have to either use a different backup or set up as new.

To your second question: No. This setting is from iOS device to iOS device and may also depend on the computer that it is connected to. This setting is dependent on a checkbox under the summary tab of your iOS device in iTunes. It would be one of the last ones on the list.

Kyotoma,

Many thanks for your reply.

I have just checked the summary tab for the iPhone 4 and the "encrypt this iPhone backup" is not checked.

So how on earth did it get encrypted ?
