Hi everybody

I'm in quite deep trouble.

Last night I did a clean install of my System. I deleted my Disk and and installed the new version of MacOS Monterey. Everything wett smooth so far. But as i wanted to restore al my Data from my encrypted Backup-drive, i couldn't access it any more. Sadly, I don't remember the Password for my encrypted Backup-Drive; and surprisingly the same seems to happen to my Icloud Keychain. To encrypt my Backup-drive, i've used a long, complicated password suggested by the Keychain Password-generator, so there's no way of guessing it.

I know it's a beginners mistake, not to write down or print these passwords; but here i am. :(

Can anybody confirm to me, that encrypted volume passwords only are saved in the local keychain? Is there any way to recover this password? I've used the same Password for the backupdrive, as for my Systemdrive which is encrypted with FileVault. But i cannot find a way to restore this Password either. Any Help appreciated.

I just checked and it appears to only be saved in the local Keychain and not the iCloud Keychain.
Thx. Where did you find that information? I think it is really problematic, that apple allows you to check the Box "remember this password in keychain" without any hint to about only stored locally. Anyway, it's my Job to keep my passwords.

Open Keychain then in the search bar start typing in the name of the backup drive like in my screenshot.
