Encrypting a Time Machine backup.

Its been going on for hours and its only at 9%. Worse yet, i have no option to stop it. Can anyone explain why this is taking so long?

Same problem here since upgrading to ML. Seems others are having the same problem:

Its not backing up. I had no problem with that. Im going through the encryption process and it is taking forever. Is this abnormal? its at 17% and has been going for nearly 5 hours.

Encryption does take a long time. In Lion it was interruptible. Expect a 24-48 hour wait.
