Am finally setting up my new 13" cMBP, and just used CCC to create a Bootable USB Drive.

Tomorrow I am going to learn how to encrypt my Bootable USB for security.

The USB drive is 32GB and I think it has like 18GB on the boot volume.

Any idea how long it will take FileVault2 to encrypt my USB Drive?

Also, once I have my new HDD installed and have all of my apps and data on my HDD - which will be maybe 400 GB - any idea how long it will take FileVault2 to encrypt my new HDD?

(I'm not looking for a down-to-the-minute estimate, but I have no clue if we are talking a few hours, or a few days, or a few months?!) 😕

Sincerely,

Debbie

The bottle neck is the speed of the disk. An encryption takes about as long as a copy.

Fortunately FileVault2 is nice and gives you an (estimated) encryption time. (Although just like download times, it can be misleading.)

To encrypt my 32GB USB is taking about 30-40 minutes.

Not sure how long a mostly full 750 GB drive will take. (Quite a bit longer, I'm sure!)

Sincerely,

Debbie
