I have a 2006 macbook, which my parents mainly use because I bought a MBP last spring. The optical drive went out on it a few months ago but until now it hasn't been a real problem so we just ignored it. My mom needed to download flash, but to do so she needed to enter the admin password which she can't remember, and neither can anyone else. To fix this problem I need to put in the osx disc, but I can't do that because the optical drive is shot. So, we are stuck in this loop.

From what I can gather replacing the optical drive will run me about $300, and I don't really think it is worth it to replace it on a laptop that is 5 years old. Anyone know any way I can reset the password so she can install flash?

I have seen external USB DVDROM drives for less then $50 at computer stores, I am sure you could boot off your SL disk with one of these?
