Not to mention better sound quality, zero latency. Sure wireless headphones have their uses, I use mine on the train, but to actually enjoy, appreciate or create music, the MAIN purpose of headphones, they are a huge compromise.

I would like to believe this, but I wonder if Apple really will allow reverse charging. Seems like it would be rough on the battery to do it a lot. Then again with a Pro Max iPhone and AppleCare battery replacement, might be worth it.

After re-reading your post and the original post I now realize you were talking about wired headphones. My brain totally refused to accept that concept. I guess they will release USB-C wired headphones now that I think about it.

Or maybe not. Maybe they will do reverse wireless charging and double down on the wireless aspect. If they really do go portless it would make sense.
I can charge both my iPhone and AirPods Case with my iPad’s USB-C port. Apple does make USB-C EarPods, and the AirPodsMax are wired if you plug in a wire..

Yes but, by adding a wire, you no longer have to recharge the AirPods, thus innovation, since having to charge something that you never had to charge before is a step backward... not forward.
After using EarPods since the very first iPod, I consider the AirPods to be a step forward in convenience, not a step back, and I can always still use wired EarPods if I want to.

But the EarPods and AirPods are separate products which exist simultaneously so it incorrect to say that charging the AirPods is bad since you didn’t have to charge the EarPods. It’s similar to saying that laptops are a step backwards because you never needed to charge a desktop.

That’s why I’m not buying AirPod. Saw so many people throwing them in the trash after ~3 years.

The Airpod Pro 2's let me down with their noise cancelling capabilities, which barely match my old TaoTronics wired earbuds (which could also charge while in use). Unfortunately, I can't find wired noise cancelling headphones anymore. Everyone has stopped making them. Everything today is disposable junk that costs 3x more and is frustrating to pair. We've taken a big step backwards.

Why do wired earbuds need to charge? Or do you mean they are Bluetooth but connected by a wire between the buds? Something else?

As for the disposable junk, yeah apparently that’s the case for a lot of things. Manufacturers have a “Why repair when you can just buy new?!“ mindset. I’d rather buy once and fix years later if necessary.

I know you can still do this but it costs a lot more every time.

Never actually occurred to me to try that. TIL. Not sure I’d use it for the phone but would be good for headphones.

This is not nearly the feat of the USB-C iPhone. This is just mapping the power on a USB-C to small soldered connections in the ear phones and bypassing the battery. Having to use bluetooth for audio and also connect to USB for power doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.

I wonder if they could invent an iPhone that you didn’t have to carry around with you all the time. It would stay connected in your house. People could call your house and leave a message.

The charging part of the laptop is a step back from a desktop. Just as the charging part of AirPods is a step back from EarPods. In those two areas, both desktops and EarPods are superior.

That's what I find annoying about these things. If they are so power efficient, there wouldn't be anything stopping them from making wired earpods with noise cancelling.. My broke ass had to hold onto my SE1 until last year when I got a 13 mini, but the headphone jack was something I still used frequently.. I ended up getting APP2 more for the new job that has me sometimes sitting in server rooms with 70dB of fan noise... I'd imagine they could definitely make them if they leveraged additional power they could draw from lightning or USB-C.. Tangentially, I'm frustrated that somehow Apple dropped wired earpod in line mic support from macs since my M2 MBA doesn't support it... Not sure how much additional cost the combo analog digital 3.5mm ports were but those things disappearing were a net loss too...

Wired headphone microphone still works perfectly normally on my 16" m2 pro, I'd be surprised if it was removed on other models with headphone jack still?

Unless the airpods remote/microphone part works in some way differently to the one on my sennheisers.

You can also get a 9$ jack adapter and plug literally anything you like into it:

The only drawback is that it wears out your Lightning port slightly faster.

I never understood why items are made wireless if it is not absolutely necessary. Why a wireless keyboard, a wireless mouse, wireless headphones? My mouse sometimes falls from the table and I love that is has a cable to pull it up again.
