I've been using Entourage for 2 years now and when I went to turn my computer on yesterday, I found that I can no longer open Entourge. I keep getting a message saying that the application has closed but has not damaged other applications. Can anyone please help me figure out how to get it open again?
Thank you.

Could be a lot of things. Let's try simple first.

Find the file com.microsoft.entourage.plist
Move it to your desktop
Launch Entourage

That didn't work?

Locate the Database Utility in your Office folder and run it.

How'd I do?

Thank you, but it didnt work.

I tried doing what you suggested. First I dragged the com.microsoft.Entourage.plist and tried to open Entourage again. Then I went into the Office and I when I clicked onto Office Sync Prefs, nothing happened. I also tried to click on Entourage Microsoft Database Daemon. The Entourage license opening page opened for a second, disappeared and then I got the same message 'Entourage has closed, no other file or application has been harmed'.

Do you have any other suggestions? In any case, thank so much for trying to help me.

You may be running the wrong application. You want the Database Utility, not the Entourage Database Daemon.

wrldwzrd89 is correct. See pic below. You want app at top of window.

Also: Repair permissions on the hard drive.

Before you rebuild the Entourage database, how large is it, and how much room is available on your hard drive. If the Entourage database gets over 2 Gb in filesize, bad bad things start happening.

If you rebuild an Entourage database, and there is not enough room on the hard drive for a complete new DB, it will stop rebuilding when the drive is full and it WON'T alert you to the fact. It simply doesn't import all of your messages. So check first that you have adequate space.

A faster way to rebuild the database is to hold down the Option (IIRC, it might be Command though) key while starting Entourage. If it opens far enough, you'll get a dialog asking if you want to rebuild the database. rdowns' method is better though, I assume, in that it may work when Entourage is unable to get even that far.

Can't find Utility

I don't know why, but both my husband and I cant find Utility in Office. We've really been searching. Maybe because its a French Mac? I'll keep looking around and get back to you when I find it.

Do you have any other suggestions considering that my Mac doesnt have the Database Utility application that I was advised to open?

entourage sucks

I have been using MS Office for years without any real problems but now I am stumped. I opened Entourage this morning and it crashed. I deleted preferences, repaired permissions, rebuilt the database, and absolutely nothign will fix it.

Now i think all of office is crashing.

Anyone else had this in the lat week?

On MacBook Pro with OSX 10.4.9.
