Equivalent of Windows Up One Folder Level

Is there an equivalent on the Mac of how on Windows you could hit the up arrow to go from Users/Bob/Documents to Users/Bob? It seems to go up one folder you have to click get info in a folder, see where it's located, and then go to the folder it's in manually.

Hit command + up arrow.

Or:

1. Hold down the alt key and click on the little folder icon at the top of each window. It behave in two ways: let go of the alt key once clicked and it opens in the same window. Keep holding it down and it opens in a new window.

2. Or customise window views to show the path bar.
