Erased disk has 57 files, 1.1 gig (4TB drive). OK?

Is that normal?

I erased the drive and I also erased the 1 partition it created.

It's formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled).

Seems reasonable to me I erased/partitioned 8gb stick last night forget the files it said but it had 340mb of use for I would think the journal for the file system on there.

Seems normal. The formatting takes up some space.

In the windows world, I wouldn't see 54 objects. I'm used to seeing the "formatted" space be less than the face value of the drive, but not seeing both as I saw this morning.
